Great picture!Railsplitter wrote: ↑Sun Feb 08, 2026 1:53 am I took this picture about an hour and a half ago and I have a few more sips left in this pour. The Smoke Wagon is a brand new bottle that I just opened up tonight.
Something on another forum reminded me of this Elk handled Schatt & Morgan so I pulled it out of storage for this picture. Can’t remember the model number without looking it up on my desktop computer. There was a time not so long ago when I knew it by heart.

Thank you. Smoke Wagon makes several variations of Bourbon and a Rye or two. Many of them are high octane but not all of them.
This Uncut Unfiltered was the first Smoke Wagon I tried several years ago and it just kind of stuck with me as one of my favorites.

Another great photo, Rick, that pair looks like they were made for each other.
Buffalo Trace is a little easier to come by these days compared to a couple years ago.

I remember when Buffalo Trace was hard to find. It would disappear off the shelves within hours or less. At that time, I had not tried it yet. It was like Coors beer or Cuban cigars. Desirable mostly because it was hard to get. I made numerous attempts to buy a bottle before it sold out and most of those attempts failed.
I eventually got my hands on a bottle. I liked it but it was just okay. My wife remembers how hard I tried to obtain a bottle before I finally snagged one. She bought me this bottle for Christmas 2025 based upon her memory of that.

All the Buffalo Trace talk made want to repost my BT favorites from 2024. Three BT “bottom shelvers” (better than BT?) and three “top shelf” Case knives. The Benchmarks are 80, 100 and 125 proof respectively.

Thanks for sharing those, Bill. I’ve had several bottles of the 80 proof Benchmark but I haven’t tried the other two yet. Might have to give those a whirl.Gtrclktr-351 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 14, 2026 5:06 pm All the Buffalo Trace talk made want to repost my BT favorites from 2024. Re: Knives and Spirits
I am a whiskey drinker through and through but lately, I have had a craving for just one bottle of wine. I have no idea what I’m doing when choosing a wine but I did a little research and picked this up today.
Don’t ask me how to pronounce it. It’s from Italy and I have no idea how to speak those words written on the front of the bottle.
I’m excited to try it so maybe tomorrow or Saturday night.
The SAK is the Fieldmaster model that I have been carrying almost exclusively for a couple weeks.

That is a rather bold choice for a non wine drinker, Rick, dry Reds are good for the ticker though!Railsplitter wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2026 9:20 pm I am a whiskey drinker through and through but lately, I have had a craving for just one bottle of wine. Re: Knives and Spirits
Thanks for replying, Ike. I hope I like it. I’ve never even sampled a Barolo but I do like things with bold intense flavors. It sounded good in print and in video reviews.
Whether I like it or not, it will more than likely be my last wine bottle purchase for quite some time. Just had a strange hankering for some wine.
I will follow up with my thoughts about it sometime this weekend.

Re: Knives and Spirits
I popped the cork tonight and although it is quite a bit different than I expected, it’s pretty good. The reviews had me thinking that it was a very robust wine that might give me a good kick in the old keester.
That is not the case but I do like it. It’s actually pretty smooth and mellow. The flavors remind me of Merlot. A bit softer than Cabernet but slightly different than both.
It’s plenty good enough to satisfy my hankering for a bottle of wine. Not sure if I will ever buy it again. I don’t drink wine very often but I certainly will consider it again now that I know what to expect.

The best I could come up with to honor the Alamo patriots on this 190th anniversary is a Schrade Long Horn and some Black Walnut Rye. There were many men from Virginia, Tennessee and even England, Germany and Ireland. But only one Marylander was present.

Re: Knives and Spirits
Smoke Wagon again tonight.
The Buck model 703 has had a place in my heart since I bought my first one in the early 1980’s when I was in the Army. That knife is long gone but I finally replaced it about 15 years ago. This one is from early 1986 before Buck switched to 3 springs in late 1986.
That 703 that I carried in the early 1980’s ALWAYS gave me a special feeling every time I handled it or used it. I would pull the knife out of my pocket and every single time I would say to myself, “Man, this is such a nice little knife”! Every single time.
Nowadays, I only get that special feeling from the 703 occasionally when it sneaks up on me but at least the feeling is not completely lost. Better occasionally than never.
