Thanks Dogg. The brass pommel and guard on the 118 (and most of the rest of the 100 series) is a new, special run by Buck for Copper & Clad. I don't know how many they have made up, but the knives also have 5160 steel (carbon steel) instead of stainless steel. The edges are perfect on the one I bought. OH
Ps When I get some 800 grit I will get the 110 finished and I'll post some more pictures.

Thanks for the tip Dogg; right now I jump from 400 to 1500 grit. I was going to stop at Northern Tool or Harbor Freight in Fayetteville this past week to try and get some 800 and 1200, but I ran out of time. Maybe Sears & Roebuck here in town will have some. I'll get back to it soon. OH

PS This old, two line, Buck 118 came this weeks mail from Cal here at AAPK, It is whole so I think this one will go to the Buck spa for restoration - it's my first two line of any type.

You always get a better result when you go in small steps. More work but the results are worth it. Try an auto-supply place. People use that fine stuff when working on car bodies.

I bought this one last night off the classifieds at Blade Forums from another collector - it will be here end of the week - sellers picture. Looks to be in very good used condition with sheath but no box - I like them that way nowadays so I can carry and use without being concerned about scratching a pristine, NIB, "collectors item". OH

It is this variation:
Variation 8 (1968-1970)13
Stamp: BUCK, u.s.a., Inverted, Left hand, 440C steel.
Butt rivets: 2 visible on both sides of bolsters.
Blade rivet: Visible on both sides of front bolsters.
Inlay rivets: 2 (tiny)
Rocker rivet: Brass, maybe headed.
Sheath: Leather, black. B or C.
Packaging: 2 piece yellow box about 2” high. **

Dave, that is a nice Buck 110 auto conversion - let us hear more about it as you use it some.

I went to a local gunshow today, not much in the way of knives (that I wanted to buy) but I did find an older Buck 112 sheath from one of the custom runs in new but scuffed condition - a knife has never been in it as far as I could tell (got one in it now!) I think it's an early to mid 1980's. I can use it for anyone of several Buck's I have in that size (112 - 422 - 412). OH

My latest two Buck Knives from the past week, both circa late 2000's and both 112 variations, the Ecolite and the Ranger Finger Groove. That 112 FG is a biter - got the gunshop clerk as he packaged the knife and got me while I was posing it for the picture - some knives just have an attitude! OH

I need to get interested in the 112's. Those are both lookers, especially the Ranger Finger Groove. It even looks like it bites!

Dogg, Somewhat weird in that it is balanced very differently from the Buck 112 Ranger - once open the blade is the heaviest part of the knife, not the frame as in the standard models. I also find it feels too small (probably from my being so used to the Buck 110 size Folding Hunter). OH

Picked up these two recently. The small Selkirk folder is 4.25" ,I think, and is built like a tank.

Producer, I think the Buck 102 is a great old school "bird & trout" knife. Nice auto conversion Bill - the early 70's had a nicely constructed frame - fits the hand well. OH

private ranch pond, foothills of the Bighorns. I like the handle. The edges are finished a little less rounded off than I would like. The sheath is weird, but it works.

Welcome to AAPK. Glad to have you aboard. I'm beginning to get the idea that you're hooked on automatics.

Daddy owned a unique 10 3/4" Latama Fishtail Picklock that saved his left arm by cutting a line that he had passed around it at the Bremerton Navy Ship yards. Yes, I'm hooked on automatics, but it's an old Navy tradition, without any connection to the "street gang" or "West Side Story" connection. Daddy was a UDT "Frogman" as well as Navy Rifle Team. A Pearl Harbor survivor with 7 1/2 ships sank from beneath him (including the 1/2 ship at Pearl Harbor that fateful morning).

I am addicted to "working" automatics.
