We have a participant knowing the correct answer!
Well done, doglegg! Just one explanation - in this case, these are small size - for a donkey.
Thanks, Eustace. I thought they looked small. But they are very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

This is what a wet logging road looks like from the hard road and from the other end.

Tom, Improved Slash Pines are being harvested, planted around 1984. Probably replant in a year or so with some variety of pine.
Larry, there should be some poles, pine logs, pine chip and saw and also pine pulp wood.
This patch of trees has been thinned and cut twice before. 1st thinning was a cutting of every 3rd row at around 10 years and the 2nd cutting at about 20 years was another thinning to allow the remaining trees to reach this stage of growth. We grazed cattle along with the trees for the 1st 10 years. Pine timber is a renewable resource.

The tale of Arnie the Arachnid.
I got a room on Cape Cod yesterday and noticed this spider to the left of my deck.
It got windy and rainy and this morning it was gone. I went out for the day and when I came back this afternoon ..........
there was Arnie, back in the same place. New web, patiently waiting. Arnie had to recover from where ever he was blown to and washed out of and climb to the trim edge and create a new web. Easily and 9 or 10 foot distance and determine his previous web site.
I find this remarkable. Probably a usual occurrence, but witnessing it first hand I applaud Arnie. Arnie don't know it but wees pals.
I am in respectful awe.

Eh, I think ol' Arnie threw in the towel.
Moving on, I took some other pictures today.
A 400lb. Tuna.
Birds in the wind.
Provincetown's Pilgrim Monument. (You do know they landed here first, right)
Pigeons hunkering down in the wind.
Tour boats.
A beautiful light show over Provincetown from my deck.
Thanks for looking.

Here's a couple of spider pictures for your viewing pleasure.
This year there are more Golden Silk Orb Weavers in the woods and yard than I have ever seen. There are usually a couple somewhere near the house, this year they are everywhere. This one is in front of a sliding glass door that leads to the deck from the dining room. We have been watching her for over two weeks. We have not opened the door so as not to disturb the web. She is constantly repairing big holes in the web each morning as we eat breakfast. Last night I noticed what I thought was a leaf caught in the web that the spider was trying to remove. It turned out to be a Katydid. The spider dined on the Katydid till about 11am this morning and then dropped the remaining green wings to the deck. They are such an amazing critter! The common name for this spider is Banana Spider.

edit: Just noticed the tiny male spider in the top picture, he is above her body almost opposite where the Katydid's wing touches the spiders hind leg.

Spent a quiet Saturday afternoon cutting up a couple of weeks worth of cardboard. Have never found anything that cuts cardboard as easily as Cold Steel serrations.

Yeah the top photo is a mixture of smoke and steam as it had started to rain on my way back home, the bottom photo I'd taken a short time earlier on my way to town is all smoke from the sawdust fires.

A pleasurable enough sun set that was the end of a very pleasant and balmy October evening here on the Cape.
As special as it is here my thoughts and prayers are directed towards the Gulf.
