New Wood Knife Storage Box Idea

That's cool Gene! I'm gonna take you up on your suggestion about antique shops, and also flea markets and yard sales, but for the latter I need to wait for spring considering it's currently about -50 below with the wind chill up here! Heck, I don't want to go out even to an antique shop in this weather, brrrrr!

I see them fairly often at antique shops and auctions. Most are newer and not fine mahogany but even the more plain ones are fine furniture for storage. Some are really nice art deco in stye from the 1940s. Mine has a green marble base and is really nice although missing the milk glass top below the mirror. I understand about the cold although wind chill only affects naked bodies, windproof clothing negates it. Not so cold here, 20s F at night, gonna get down in teens later in the week, I think it'll get really cold up by you. Merry Christmas!!

OK, I read this thread and was heading into town over the weekend to run some errands and one of those was to go to Harbor Freight and look for one of those wooden boxes I saw here on this thread. On the way I saw a yard sale sign and on a whim, I stopped (I hardly ever stop anymore at yard sales, being disappointed so many times). Nothing good in front of the house and the lady said to me "there are tools behind the house" I walk around and see a bunch of junky Chinese tools and then I spy a wooded Jewlery box and I bring it around and the lady says $5 SOLD!!! So here are the pictures of it. It needs a little cleaning and of course now I need to buy more knives to fill it up!
So far, I just have one stockman in it... I am hoping in the morning I will look inside and find more

Appreciate the info Gene! Yours sounds really nice with a marble base. Mine won't need to be anything fancy, just as long as it has drawers and lots of them. If you've ever experienced -50 degrees below zero on your exposed face and/or hands while you're fumbling for your car keys, believe me you'll know it doesn't affect only " neked" bodies! lol!

Wow, that's a really great score buddy! And you certainly can't beat the price! I was looking at similar over on Etsy, but after doing the math on the dimensions I realized they won't hold my 350+ knives. Now that I think of it, even one from Harbour Freight likely wouldn't be large enough, perhaps 2 or 3 are needed! That could get expensive though! And why are you fretting about needing to get more knives, isn't that what we all live for? lol! You certainly were in the right place at the right time to secure your new one, Bravo!

Thanks! The big problem for me these days is the shipping cost buying online so for you to order a Lage piece as we have been discussing, man o' man the shipping has got to be HIGH! So try the yard-sake-thrift-store route at least for a little while and I hope get lucky too

Yah, the shipping to Canada is a killer! It's been a deal-breaker for me a couple of times, US$105. to ship from Colorado, WTF! I got 10 more clear plastic boxes today so I'll see if I can make do with those at least until Spring when I can get out to some sales! Thx for the well-wishes!

I had to do something the dust is piling up on my "exposed" knives I have on display on a bookshelf... dust and more dust on them... Maybe them there clear plastic tubs is also a good idea after all

Damn G Dog you stole that thing for 5 bucks . Did you give her a tip ! Just kidding . Need to start stopping by some of those yard and estate sales again . Every once in a while a guy can get crazy good deals . Going to have to get something going here myself. You will fill that up pretty quickly would reckon.

I keep most of my knives in the leather folding cases with the red felt and stretch bands. Last week I found this machinist tool box at Harbor Freight for less than a hundred bucks. It’s hardwood and the drawers are lined infelt. It also locks. It works very nice for collector knives. I am using it for my “most frequently handled” knives. Compared to similar wood boxes, I think this is a bargain.

That is precisely why I switched to the clear boxes man! I had all my knives open and displayed in those red/black felt/elastic pouches, and I even dusted diligently to keep the dust off, but it ultimately became too much work and wasted time I could be using to search for more knives! I got 10 more boxes today and I'll try to get everything transferred over soon and will post pictures!

I was using cigar boxes for a while, but they are a bit too small, you can't see the knives and they can't be stacked as easy if they are different sizes. Them there tubs looks like the answer!

I was using cigar boxes for a while, but they are a bit too small, you can't see the knives and they can't be stacked as easy if they are different sizes. Them there tubs looks like the answer!

Cigar boxes were suggested to me, but I want to see my knives so I discounted that idea! I'll post a full report on the clear boxes and then you can decide buddy!
