There certainly is one being sent. Just not seeing any connection with the good start up story and traditional knives...
Pretty much my assessment also. Certainly wouldn't have been my choice for an early offering.

why do these knives vary so much depending on where you buy them. same knife selling for $80 at one place. $125 and sold out at another. and then topping out around $175 at another. way premature for dealers to start the "flip".

and case says foreign & domestic materials. not parts. big difference. if weed is using foreign & domestic parts, they will be in trouble before you know it. i just really feel sorry for people who overpaid $40 to $100 dollars more than they should have. maybe weed should have set the price, not the retailers

Not sure it matters, but for clarification and accuracy:

Please - show me a Case box that states that in those words. The implication is that Case is using both foreign and domestic parts. Not saying that you're wrong, perhaps you are correct, but I personally have never heard of Case using foreign made parts, nor have I seen that stated on their boxes.

But again, you may be right, I would just like to see it.
I apologize the wording was incorrect. I should have said Imported instead of foreign.
What's the label say on the pictured box? IIRC that statement may have been on the Mini-Blackhorn, possibly another lower cost Case pattern, but it's not what "all Modern Case knives state on their boxes". Maybe your use of "modern" is referring to "tactical" patterns? ::hmm:: It's certainly not on the boxes of any recently made traditional patterns (like the OP "Weed" trapper) I've seen.

Ken
FWIW the subtleties between “foreign” and “imported”, and between “parts” and “materials” may or may not be significant. As pointed out, Case used the terms “imported materials” on a limited number of patterns (only one that I know of). The Case example cited does not say “ parts”, which can be read to mean pre-fabricated pieces (liners, bolsters, blades, etc. It says “materials”, implying raw materials like steel, brass, plastics, etc.

On the 15th of November 1967redrider started this thread Weed & Co., today on the 14th of December someone else started a thread Weed & Co Cutlery. No wonder the system gets clogged up and confusing sometimes with so many threads all about the same topic. ::facepalm:: ::facepalm:: ::facepalm::

I saw a bunch of these on ebay. When you look closely at the photos there are a lot of fit/finish issues, blemishes, poorly fitted scales, etc. Maybe the folks assembling them had a few too many tokes, I don't know. They look like lower end, Chinese made knives to me. Maybe they do some "finishing" work here or something. I'd like to see a video of the production process on these. The people putting these out are good at marketing, weed is very popular these days lol.

I think there are 7. That is just one out of many, many, many examples. It's called NOT

Maybe the imported parts are the blade steel? German, as are Case?
I poopooed the new Winchester and Primble knives too until I snagged 1. pretty damned nice. Better than a new Case for sure.Just up therte in price.

I watched the youtube review last night. This one isn't for me. It just doesn't look well made enough to be worth the price and the whole pot angle puts me off. It looks like a novelty knife that you would see in a head shop. If you can get a Rough Ryder that is better made for considerably less, what's the point?

Here's some new Case box pictures I rounded up, for learning purposes, and thanks to those who posted them. The being phased out Case American Flag boxes do not have this wording. Also posting a Weed & Co. tube for comparison.

The "imported" materials that Case uses may refer to stag (from India) or camel bone (from ... camels!).
I have no insider information on their manufacturing processes, nor am I defending them. Just wondering if this may be what is meant.

I dont get the shield style? but the weed & Co. is a legit knife brand from yeRS AGO. tHEY WERE MAKERS FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS IN nEW yORK, OR SO iVE READ. tHE WEED & cO NAME IS SUPPOSED TO BE USED UNTIL THE CRAFTSMEN REACH THEIR TOP GAME AND WHEN THE WORKMANSHIP IS "THERE" THE NAME WILL BE CHANGED TO SCHATT & mORGAN. (my caps button is/was stuck). At least they are keeping the brand made in USA. I will give them the benefit of the doubt. The web is full of BS and rumors. Some prove true, most do not.

Based on the Case box label, one could potentially think that the "imported materials" came from France or some other French-speaking country (Canada, perhaps), otherwise why print the French translation on the box? ::shrug::

That is a requirement for selling in Canada.

Did Case not sell in Canada before? Or is this a new Canadian law?

Canadian Law mate, for as long as I can remember.

Yup, that's one made for up here... Because, second nationally recognized language is Quebec French. Which is like actual French, but different. Think of Normandy Slur.

Well mate, they do have a ways to go yet... My buddy & me's order was a bust, too many finishing issues on both hunters. :(

It really is a bummer, becuase with a little more work, they could've been an excellent first run. Oh well, they are learning, just takes a good bit of time, to learn the craft from the ground up. Cross fingers next drop will be fixed.

Yup mate. We're the only Country on earth, I believe, to still have these kind of import laws still in effect. I believe France themselves did away said laws quite awhile ago now.
But don't quote me on this mate, I'm just going by foggy memories here.

It all stems from are long history of protectionist measures... Pre-NAFTA days...
