It's been a couple of years since this thread was active and we've acquired several new members since, so if you're fairly new to the forum or your tastes have changed over the past few years, let's hear it, what are your all time favorite patterns?

No question for me. #1 - Camillus 72 and clones. Since this thread was last active I've acquired a taste for Mini-Trappers, (new passion) mostly Case but any brand will do and they have bumped the old #2 into third place.

Sooooo...what was your #2 before the trappers took over???

2.) is much more difficult. It's a toss up and among the contenders are the medium jacks (3¼" - 3-3/8" closed). Even though I haven't added any to the pile in a small forever, my first love, doctor knives are still near and dear to my heart. In the mix somewhere are English Jacks. I can't ignore just about anything with a Wharncliffe and/or a sheepfoot blade. And we mustn't forget the Onion series Keshaws with Speedsafe. Time to stop. I'm rambling.

Since you forced me to think about it again, I'd have to say most (but not all) 2 blade jacks, especially if one of the blades is a Wharncliffe (not a huge Barlow fan).

In addition to Camillus 72's, I also collect Camillus 14's (not much variety there) and their brethren.

You're at what ever level you're at. If you decide you like Peanuts, Barlows or Stockmans (as examples) and you have a few, then that's the "level" you're at. IMHO once you get two or more of a certain genre or pattern and ya love 'em, you're a collector. Novice maybe but still a collector unless you're an accumulator. Collectors have focus.

Those 44 pen knives seem like they are kind of hard to come by. If a good one is available, it's more than I want to spend. I thought I would finish out the trifecta, Stock Pattern - Jack Pattern and Pen Pattern but I can see it's going to take a while.

It is difficult for me to say what my #2 favorite pattern is, however my #1 is clearly the equal end large cigar pattern. There is variation within the large cigar patter. For example, blades can be in a moose configuration, jack configuration, or 3 blade cattle configuration. Technically, the large cigar frame with canoe bolsters is called a gunboat canoe instead of a large cigar, but I tend to classify them both as a large cigar.

The picture below is mostly older non-Case examples with one modern one thrown in for good measure.

#1 - Usually a Medium to Large Stockman will catch my eye first, most often (but not exclusively) serpentine or Sow Belly.

#2 - A small Congress pattern.
I have a worn-out Boker Congress that was given to me ny my late father-in-law, and I carry it most Sundays.

I am glad to come across this thread. Before now I hadn’t thought about it much, but always knew that some knives just “feel right” in your hands, and others don’t.

Serpentine Jack ( e. g. Case 6244 or 6232)

Serpentine Pen ( 3" to 3 1/2" , single spring) but the equal end Pen is a close decision here.
