Jerry,you and your Dad amassed a museum quality collection of old Case knives. He was a certified collector of antiques and you are following him proudly.It is a pleasure to view your knives.

Here is an not too common stamp. From a previous post...

I have checked all the reference books I have. Sarge's books make reference to this stamp but on a frame that is 3-5/8" closed. My knife is 4-13/16" closed. He also make reference in his stamp section of his book to this stamp. He states that the stamp was used between 1948 and 1952, when W R Case and Sons purchased the Pictou Cutlery Company, in Pictou, Nova Scotia at the request of the Canadian Government. He goes on to say that Case then changed the company name to "R. Case and Sons Ltd." He also states this knife stamp is "difficult to find in the U.S.". Only reference I can find to a this knife at 4-13/16" closed is in Voyles' IBCA price guide 2nd edition, page 135.

Hi Jerry. Based on the tang stamp, that appears to be a knife made by Case for the Canadian forces during WWII 1942-45. The broad arrow inside a C on the scale was the Government Issue mark. The Case knives made after the War in Nova Scotia were stamped M.S. LTD XX. I hope this is of interest. s-k

One would think being a military knife, you would see more of them. They are certainly around for sure. I think the scarcity of it is basically in the stamp as I believe it was only ever used on this knife.

Here is another that CASE probably did not make thousands or 10s of thousands of. CASE Sea Beast 32098F. Interesting stamp. Used from 1914' to 1920' I believe, making this knife 100 years old or real close to it.
Not sure that this stamp was ever used on any other knife, at least any I have seen. Possibly other 098 knives of same timeframe. Maybe someone else knows if it was ever used on another pattern #.

That's a great find! Got a question, is the lower bolster smaller on that knife or is that the camera angle? I remember last week or so that particular pattern of the 6275 knife was discussed, how rare they are, but I don't remember seeing a picture of it.

Some beautiful old knives in this post!

Here are a few old Case celluloids.

First two are a CASE BRADFORD PA. GS1097 large Goldstone ladies leg and a Tested RM1098 Candy Stripe 5 1/2" toothpick.

Next is an unknown pattern CASE BROS. SPRINGVILLE N.Y. butterbean with Ceylon Waterfall handles.

First group of three pictured together are an early Tested RM233 candy stripe pen knife, a CASE BRADFORD B3067 waterfall handle whittler and an early Tested 93109 whittler with imitation pearl handles.

Last group of three are a CASE BRADFORD GS282 Doctors knife with goldstone, a CASE & SONS BRADFORD PA. jack with candy stripe handles and a CASE BRADFORD PA./CASE'S STAINLESS GS2042 pen knife with goldstone celluloid handles.

Wayne my friend, some real nice old celluoids there! Never have a seen a CASE with thae handle type like on your unknown pattern. Sweet knife. Great condition. Almost looks like a 30 pattern with a semi dog.

I sold 3 pretty rare ones (2 recently) so those are up to the new owner to post if he chooses. However, I still have a few up my sleeve. Here is one of them...

Just messing with you guys on that last knife. Only rarity associated with that knife is that I have not yet smashed it with a 20 sledge hammer. Might be a good 308 canidate. The knife of course.

Thanks for showing them. Wish I knew why the scales on some of them hold up so well and others, seemingly just like them, deteriorate into nothing.

Celluloid is strange stuff.........

Here is an old toothpick. I think the handles are not often seen. I might have one other knife with it. I think they call it Green Pyrimite.

I talking to my Mother in Law last year and she was describing an old knife her father used to carry. When finished the conversation she said, "when he died, don't know what ever happened to that knife. Sorry wish I had it".

I went directly to my safe opened it and went back down and handed it to her. She was tickled pink. She is the proud owner of an old Toohpick now that she proudly displays.

I find the old pre-TESTED CASE celluloid to be extremely stable. Never had a problem with one.

Here is one you don't see often. Stamp used on this knife possibly exclusively. Dates 1905 to 1920'. The "XXs" look like pirate crossbones at the tips.

Just got this one today. Only one I have had but been looking for it. A friend found it in some knives he had had for years and gave it to me. CASE MANUFACTURING CO. LITTLE VALLEY N Y Rare stamp. I believe it dates to around 1911. I owe him for this one. Good solid little knife!!!

I think I remember seeing an old toenail you had with that stamp but that may be the only other one I have seen. I don't believe there are many authentic knives with that stamp out there.

Here's another rare one from my pile. Case & Son's (with the apostrophe) R258. Made between 1903 - 1905. There's one like it on page 73 of Sargent's 7th Edition. I've had this knife for a while but only recently realized it had the apostrophe in the tang stamp markings, as its not easily read without good magnification. Sorry pics aren't better, but it has great walk and talk, and the celluloid scales are in excellent condition. Blades are near full but have some pitting.
