Finally got a few decent photos of this Waterville Harness Jack (3 & 1/2")... brass liners, cutout in liner and scales to accommodate the pull of the punch which is evident in mark side and blades open photos (just above shield), Federal Shield and jigged bone... solid and tight old knife with really strong springs... It's in great shape for a work knife.

Thanks Joe ... no doubt that master blade saw alot of use though the shape is good (not abused despite the blunted tip) but quite frankly I don't think it was ever sharpened - I think who ever owned it just kept using it for years without giving it a clean sharp edge - at least it seems that way when looking at it, and funny thing is it still can cut ...

Have this newer Schatt & Morgan HJ to contribute with nice wormgroove handles.

Traded for this Harness Jack 40+ years ago,,,Still romancing her...just haven't been able to put her down the road yet..

Having researched this piece over the years I haven't found out to much about it..

I have kind of come to the conclusion,, That it could possibly be a custom piece made for Adolph Blaich of San Francisco.

Would sure appreciate any input as to your knowledge and thoughts.. Thanks

Tom,that is a head scratcher.I know Utica was a supplier of knives for them,but that don't anything like something they made.I don't recognize the bone.

I hadn't seen this old thread before. Harness jacks are one of my favorite of the old patterns, but unfortunately I only have this one. It is a 3 5/8" Paxton and Gallagher, Omaha with bone handles.

Here is a Robeson take. The bp on the shield as Charlie explained probably stands for belt punch. 1916-1939 range and typical pattern number 626382 Not sure what the patent numbers refer to
