I thunk we were looking for swedges with nail nicks???

Here are two circa 1910-1916 Terrier Cutlery Company Bullhead or Double-Ended Jacks. There is a really deep swedge cut into the master clip blade on the larger of the two, and the master sheepfoot on the smaller knife has a well defined swedge, as well.

Even the spey blades on these two knives are swedged on both sides.

The larger knife has salesman's sample numbers on the back of the master blade.

Love those old Terriers.

Then, there's an old Robeson Cutlery Company harness jack with a nice full swedged spear master blade.

Any blade with a swedge cut is A-OK and fits in here, regardless of brand, pattern, age, folding, or fixed or anything else. If a blade has a long pull, that's just a bonus to me. You guys have shown some really beautiful and interesting knives. Keep up the good work!

So I'll dig through all my knives including "tactical" and see what else I can come up with.

Oakwood Ace was nice enough to be putting some
Rugers in their 50% off bin when I was there last.
CASE calls them 'new black' but I'd say 'new cocoa'
or 'butterrum crunch' would be more accurate.

One 6215 was the original black black w/Ruger red shield.
Since I already had one of those I went with a brownie.

How about a BIG old custom folder made from a BIG file and a BIG swedge cut. I suspect this knife was built at General Dynamics before it became Lockheed Martin. Reason I think this is because back in the 80's I saw a couple of knife "kits" that were made at the factory and assembled elsewhere. They were all big lockback folders of varying design, but still similar. I may be totally off the wall but this big ol thing seems to fit that mold. It's well made but definitely not a production knife.



and an old Robeson 622120 that has seen a lot better days.

It has what looks like a mink etched on the blade, some really funky bone scales, all new pins. Be fun if it could talk.


BTW, all of the knives I've posted tonite came from a lot that I purchased last night. There are about 125 knives and 80 or so are US or German. The rest are Japanese, Chinese, Pakistan, Mexico, or South American. I'll be posting some of the nicer ones and am probably going to sell most if not all of them.

I call dibs on that Robeson (if I can afford it at the time of course!)

It's a beaver, not a mink.
Robeson collectors refer to the knife as a "Beavertail".
It is basically the same pattern as that big wood handled jack you have, Wullie.
I've seen it with wood (ebony and cocobola). I've never seen it with bone. So, I'm not too sure about the handles on that one.

Good info to know Charlie. Of coarse every man should know a Beaver really costs more than a Mink. I love the furry little thangs myself. I wish they would learn how to make a pair of shoes out of some of them. A pair of shoes like that would always be warm. That brings me to the motto for the day, eat a Beaver and save a tree.

Charlie, that old Beavertail has been messed with. I thought that was bone but upon closer scrutiny it is some kind of plastic that appears to have been hand jigged. Oh well.

Believe it or not, that Shap is tight as drum. The old Case has just a smidgeon of wobble on the main blade. Both knives have great W&T.

That old Shapleigh was made by Empire Knife Co, Winsted, CT.
Here's a Jack on the same handle pattern. For all the wear, it has a pretty decent swedge actually!
If you find a Shapleigh D-E with a smooth diamond shield, there's a good chance it was made by Empire.

THANKS for that info. The old knife is well worn and still tighter than a drum. Snap is great on all blades with the pen blade being slightly less than the other two. You can tell it was sharpened the most.

Funky thing about that knife is that there is NO nail nick of any kind on that unswedged fleam. Guess they wanted to you to be really serious about using the silly thing because the way it is now you have to pry it open with something else.
