Nice group of knives Dan. We must have similar tastes as I have many of the same. I always liked Opinels as they are very traditional friction folders. All mine are carbon steel as I’ve never gotten around to trying the stainless steel ones. The rings are a nice touch but I don’t think they will accidentally close if it lacked them. Great knife at a good price.Dan In MI wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 4:24 am Thanks, Kim!I will use archival photos to help with the explanations.
With Opinels, the higher the number, the bigger the knife. In the photo below are, top to bottom, a No. 2, a No. 3, a No. 4, and three No. 6s. The No. 3 is standard beechwood, and of course two of the No. 6s are olivewood. The other three are hornbeam that has been color tinted.

An electrician's knife will typically have a spear point blade. They also have a screwdriver with an edge designed for scraping insulation off wire. There will be a liner lock, usually for the screwdriver. Many of them have a shackle, and they tend to be bareheaded. Newer ones can often be found inexpensively. They are solidly built, and they make excellent carriers.

And the Victorinox Pioneer is, of course, a Swiss Army knife. It has ribbed aluminum (Alox) scales instead of the more recognizable plastic. Its tools are a blade, bottle opener, can opener, and awl.

I have a Camillus Tl-29 electrician knife as well. Great carry knife. Camillus is a favorite of mine as is Queen, Schatt and Morgan and Robeson. Back in those days, high quality American made products weren’t cheap but they weren’t super expensive. Many knives today are ridiculously priced and many are brands that you never heard of. I always preferred traditional knives and think the so called “tactical” knives are both clumsy and aesthetically ugly. I especially don’t get why the recent popularity of cleaver shaped blades in folders.
