That is a cool old stove there Yehuda. I note it was made in Franklin, TN. Site of a significant American Civil War battle.

Ken those are beautiful birds. Unfortunately they are not a species that we see here in Kentucky.

Thanks guys. I'm extending my back porch for a "kicking back" area. This will make an awesome warmer for that. Can't wait to fire it up!

Just be sure the stove sits on non-combustible pad and is a sufficient distance from a combustible wall. Cast iron heaters caused many a house fire back in the day.

I spy with my bright blue eye: a .50 cal cartridge - a right-side USMC collar emblem for winter green blouse -- What looks to be a 7.62x51mm cartridge.

That's a good idea Rob. My memorabilia is scattered hither and yon all over the place. It would be nice to have it all in one place.

My wife and I enjoy antique malls and shops.
While she's off looking at the glass and china, I'm drawn to cases and cabinets that look just like this! LOVE IT!!!
And like doglegg, I'd love to hear the story behind each and every item.

Boys, we could be here awhile.

Jerry, there's nothing wrong with your eyes, except the 7.62 is actually an ink pen my dad made. The live 50 cal. round came from my uncle who was in the Air Force from shortly after WWII and during Korea. The USMC pin came by way of my sons time in ROTC.

Getting ready to head out to my grandson's last track meet of the year, but will be glad to share some stories this evening. Not sure I can get through all of it, but I'll touch base on at least a good portion of it. About 75% of these things were inherited from family members who have passed on, but were used and/or loved during my lifetime.

Same here, snow the first two weekends of April and frost well into the third! Latest frost I can remember in this part of the country.

Well the 7.62 Jerry mentioned isn't the ink pen, but rather a 7.65(x53mm) Argentine. My uncles Belgian Mauser was the first high powered rifle I'd ever shot. I kept a round just because.

Here's a group from the case that pretty much outlines the type of things that are in there, my grandpa's razors.(it's almost a history of razors in and of itself) He taught me to shave and gave me my first razor, the long black handled Schick on the left. He loved his straight razor, very much liked the basic safety razors, saw no sense in the safety razors with "gizmos" and absolutely hated the injectors and rotateing band razors. His shaving mug and brush are also in the case.
Another grouping from the case. Ticket stubs and other memorabilia from concerts my wife and I went to in the early years. Hopefully I won't be shunned by some of you hardcore country boys. All I can say is, it was the 70's and 80's, we lived in a big city and rock concerts were just plain rowdy, loud and FUN!! Besides, being in Wichita, KS we saw a fair share of folks attending those concerts wearing s _ _ t kickers and cowboy hats and we went to a number of rodeos wearing concert t's and tennis shoes. It was all good!
This one goes to the very heart of the reason for having a memory case. My oldest son gave me this Zippo lighter for fathers day in 1988. He was killed in a car wreck in 1999. It's inscribed "Dad" and I carried it almost every day up until the funeral. When we got home, I put it in it's box and haven't carried it since. Sad times? Sure, but when I look at it, I only remember the good times we had and that's what a memory case should always be about. Good times.
Most everything in the memory case has a similar story behind it and next time I go back home to see my Mom I'll be picking up a few items that belonged to my Dad, some will undoubtedly be added to the case.

As Steve said, thanks for sharing. Most of our memories are sweet, some bitter sweet but thank the Lord we have them and remember. As a kid I always liked to get the old folks talking and sharing their memories. Now I am an old folk and have lots of my own. Thanks again WB

WB: You saw Rush, Van Halen, Boston & Ozzy in the 80s! You and I could definitely party together! My wife & I have been going to rock concerts since the late 70s, and we still go whenever we can - the only difference is the crowd now has gray hair and we can afford MUCH better seats! Just last year we were at Tom Petty's last concert in LA (RIP TP). Rock on!

As a kid I always liked to get the old folks talking and sharing their memories.

Me too! When I was 8-12 years old, there was an old General Store about 5 miles out in the country from where I lived. This place was straight out of a depression era movie, front porch with rocking chairs and benches, potbelly stove inside and both fully equipped with sagging roofs and brass spitoons. Me and a couple of friends used to ride our mini-bikes out there, kick back with an ice cold Zero candy bar and bottle of Dr. Pepper and listen to the farmers spin their "mostly true" yarns. You know, the ones about the bear that drug off the cow and the catfish so big it straightened the hook and got away. That ol' store's long gone now and I'm sure the old man that owned it never realized how much of an influence it had on us young'ns, but it did.

The first 10 years after moving to the Ozarks, it was all about bluegrass and country. But, over the past 15-20, Branson has actually stepped it up and started brining in a few of the classic rock era bands. Styx, REO, Sammy Hagar and our most recent was a Pink Floyd endorsed tribute band. Of course it wasn't like the real deal, but I dare say they pulled it off very nicely. Staying true to the original stage coriography and the original album renditions of the songs. It was a fun show and you're right I haven't seen so much gray hair since the Grateful Dead reunion concert, but nonetheless, there was no lack of youthful enthusiasm.
