All About Pocket Knives

A few days ago, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife. This pocket knife now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. This pocket knife also became the most recent example to be added to my collection. It is an EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY (1916-1919), one blade, one tang stamp, 2 7/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "EAGLE (over) KNIFE CO" This pocket knife is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE CO., INC., the VALLEY FORGE CUTLERY COMPANY, the ETCHED P. COMPANY, and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple construction. Overall, this is my thirty-third, EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY pocket knife. ALL thirty-two of my other, EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY pocket knives, have been previously posted. The main blade does NOT have a half stop. The main blade does NOT have an opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did need a VERY MINOR cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Recently, my trip to the post office produced this ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, NEWBURGH N.Y. (1917-1925), pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an ALLEN CUTLERY CO., one blade, one tang stamp, one handle stamp, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "ALLEN (over) CUTLERY CO. (over) NEWBURGH NY" The patent date handle stamp says, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." This pocket knife has handles with "designs" or "grips" carved into them. This is my fourth ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife with this particular style of handles. My other three ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knives, with this particular style of handles, have ALL been previously posted under this topic or thread. The main blade (SUPER SHARP!!) does have a CRISP half stop. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. I would guesstimate that about 80% of the original, factory applied black oxidation, remains. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need cleaning.
I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

This is my thirty-fourth, EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY pocket knife. ALL thirty-three of my other, EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY pocket knives, have been previously posted. The main blade does have a GOOD half stop. My other twenty-four pocket knives in this, fob or key ring, slide lock, pattern or style, have ALL been previously posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. While this pocket knife is NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. It is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the G. SCHRADE KNIFE COMPANY, the ETCHED P. COMPANY and some other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. Skip, that old M&H knife got me to thinking about the years long ago when we hung out at the station as kids . It was on main st. in our home town here and mom would send us to get cigarettes and stuff. The owners knew all of us in the neighborhood. Think they even sold us kids beer for the old man and we had a tab ( credit ) that Dad would pay at end of month . Times sure have changed. Somehow managed to save this matchbook.

Back in November 2022, I purchased the pocket knife that is in pictures #1-4, posted below (MY item, NOT my pictures). I originally posted this pocket knife, under this topic or thread, back on Thursday, September 21, 2023. I temporarily "repaired" the broken blade with a magnet (for the pictures). I know that broken blades should not be welded. But, since I have NO intention of ever using this pocket knife, only displaying it, I went ahead and had the broken blade tip welded back on the blade. Also, if I ever do decide to part with this pocket knife, it WILL BE DISCLOSED that the blade tip was previously broken AND it was repaired by welding. I showed the broken pocket knife to a high school kid I know. He was learning how to weld and he said he might be able to repair it. I just got home from picking up the pocket knife from him. I knew there would be some blade loss, I just didn't know how much. As it turns out, for a first effort, I think he did a VERY GOOD job. He did NOT charge me, but I gave him a few bucks anyway. The broken, now repaired pocket knife, is in pictures #5-8, posted below. Picture #9 posted below, is of my other five pocket knives, of the same pattern or style, for comparison. These five, same pattern or style of pocket knives, have been previously posted under this topic or thread. The VERY LAST picture is of The ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pattern ad.

My other thirty-five pocket knives, in this distinct pattern or style, have ALL been previously posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. While this pocket knife is most definitely NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it definitely DOES fit into the "cousin" category. It is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY, the ETCHED P. The ONLY feature that "looks" correct, is the tang stamp. JUST the tang stamp.

In a way, this pocket knife represents a milestone in New York cutlery history.
As of 12:00:01 A.M.(E.S.T), Thursday, January 1, 2026, this ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY (1917-1925) pocket knife,
AND ALL OTHER complete or "parts of" ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knives, became 100 to 108 years old.

My other one was posted, under this topic or thread, back on Friday, February 16, 2024. The main blade (SCARY SHARP!!) does have a CRISP half stop. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a NASTY closing snap. Even with some blade loss, overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. Yesterday afternoon, my trip to the post office produced this advertising, slide lock, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my "slide lock", pocket knife collection. It is a U.S.A., one blade, a cap lifter or bottle opener handle, 3" closed, all metal, advertising, slide lock, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. This pocket knife has a slide lock that unlocks the blade, open or closed. It also locks the blade, open or closed. The slide lock work perfectly, with no issues. The main handle side says, "RISSEL ATLANTIC SERVICE - PH 35756 HONEY BROOK, PA." The main handle side also says "U.S.A.", just above the pivot pin. The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. This is my twenty-ninth pocket knife that is in this, slide lock, fob or key ring, pattern or style. My other twenty-eight pocket knives in this, slide lock, fob or key ring, pattern or style, have ALL been previously posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. While this pocket knife is definitely NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. This pocket knife is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the G. SCHRADE KNIFE COMPANY, the ETCHED P. COMPANY and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Recently, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to join my collection. It is an ALLEN CUTLERY CO. (1917-1925), one blade, two handle stamps, 4 1/8" closed, all metal, No. 30 pattern, hawkbill, pocket knife. The manufacturer handle stamp says, "ALLEN (over) CUTLERY CO. (over) NEWBURGH, N.Y." The patent date handle stamp says, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." There is NO tang stamp. This is my tenth, ALLEN CUTLERY CO., No. 30, hawkbill pocket knife. My other nine, ALLEN CUTLERY CO., No. 30, hawkbill pocket knives, have ALL been previously posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. I now actually have a total of twelve of these hawkbill pocket knives. ALL twelve hawkbill pocket knives have an ALLEN CUTLERY CO. handle. However, two of the twelve hawkbill pocket knives have Ulery blades. The two, previously posted, Ulery hawkbill pocket knives are legitimate. I would guesstimate that there is 99% of the original, factory applied oxidation, remaining on the handle(s). The main blade has a CRISP half stop. The main blade has a VERY GOOD opening snap. The main blade has a NASTY closing snap. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.
