Well fellers, i'm finally fulfilling a long childhood dream of mine. Purchased my first hand gun! Decided to pull an all nighter do to black Friday deals . I think I picked a good un', a CZ P-09 Duty FDE by ASG. All the reviews, blogs, youtube vids say it's one of the best .177 cal air pistol for it's price range. Dude I live in Canada. It's impossible for people to use "real" handguns as self defense, or for any other matter at the. It's almost to the point now-a-days that you can't even take it to the licenced hand gun range. If the police/game wardens stop and find you carrying in all the proper cases ect. They will still find a reason to seize it and charge you with "unlawful transportation of prohibited firearms", or something along those lines. For us honest people handguns are only good as wall hangers, and not even that. And it's looking like they are going to be cracking down even harder on firearms ownership. Funny, gov sure seems not willing to tackle criminal activity in this day and age. Like in "Commy-Forina" ….

Nice grouping. What's with that hole in the upper right hand corner of the cardboard?

I enjoyed shooting the Thompson in the Army for familiarization, however I preferred the M-3 "Grease Gun" which was also a .45 cal. If you are not familiar with this, it actually looks very similar to a fat grease gun with a wire stock and a long magazine hanking out of it. It was relatively lightweight and handy. Lee Marvin used one in a scene from the Dirty Dozen.

A Chicago Typewriter, nice! I shot an auto .556 Nato at Silver Eagle in Ashburn at their 50 yd. indoor range and it was a lot of fun. I've always wanted a Thompson but the Federal stamp is pretty pricey, on top of the price of the firearm.

This was a fun shoot. And expensive, and my first full auto experience. I was impressed with the quality of the weapon. Very precise machining and even parkerizing. The trigger was horrible and it weighed 10 lbs. I figured I could manage it because in semi auto there was no recoil. Full auto was weird because of no recoil but the gun had a mind of it's own! It wanted to climb to the right. By the time I figured out short bursts I was out of money! A great experience though and now I want one!

My one and only experience with full auto was exactly the same. My oldest son and I had an opportunity to shoot at a police practice range (at the invitation of a LEO friend). We were offered the chance to shoot a full auto if we provided the ammo. I shot what I could afford (100 rounds). Shooting it was a blast, but it was over quick!

Was touring the Cold Harbor battlefield met up with a local resident who struck up a conversation with my wife and I. Wind up is he gave us a couple of pick-ups from "private property" where he has permission to hunt relics. He said you could tell dropped minnie balls from fired ones due to the deformation in the skirt that engaged the rifling. I had one each. Tickled pink to have met this fella.

Dimitri those pinfire cartridges are pretty rare and neat to have, thanks for showing.

I have showed this before, only BP era gun I have, I think. A Colt 22 short open top revolver made from 1871 thru 1877 according to Bluebook. Non firing but i tried, firing pin won't reach the cartridge rim. Probably a good thing.

CZ P-09 (.177) is in!
After only 3 days our Canadian snail mail system .
Anyway, pistol is even better then I hoped for. Very hefty, substantial weight to it. Very comfy hand feel to it, (as you know, one of the most important things when it comes to firearms, and pistols especially is hand feel ). But it is a very large frame, so medium to smaller handed people would have a hard time handling it, like the real P-09. Build quality is simply sublime. All metal internals, barrel, and slide. Very high quality polyimer frame (just like the real P-09). Only think I kind of miss is cut out slide area, but how much can you ask for from a $120 air pistol . Made in Japan is icing on the cake.
Part fit quality is excellent, absolutely no sloppy wobble in trigger, slide, hammer, safety, decock, ect.
Dry firing, trigger pull ain't that bad, just perfect for this size of gun. Cycles smooth with nice feel to it. Really great for double action trigger, first half of pull indexes mag clip, then fires the bb/pellet. No clunkiness in cycle at all. I think they nailed this trigger perfectly, Japanese workmanship for ya! Rifled barrel is a plus, so I think i'll only run good quality pellets through it, for now at least. And threaded barrel shroud, to attach mock suppressor/extension.
Also the co2 loading system is quite brilliant. No stupid hex key/plug to deal with.
All in all I am very pleased with this one. Needs no mods that I can see of, ready to go out of the box (which is always a plus ).

My bride to be expressed interest in learning to shoot firearms over our Thanksgiving break, I'll post some pictures, weather permitting. Not giving her a 10 gauge or B.A.R. to see how she copes with it, probably starting with .22s and then maybe working up to .45 auto and LC. The BP conversions are a lot of fun to shoot with minimal kick also, not sure if she would like the AR.

Of course the first thing I'm teaching her is firearm safety.

Well it's been exactly 1 week since I cleaned my hand cannons. Today I cleaned my rifles and shotguns. But rather than post pictures of them, I've decided to post a picture of the ammunition that my handguns, rifles and shotguns use. Some of my calibers overlap, so I can shoot rounds from both a handgun and a rifle. They are pictured below. Great line up there Skip . Quite a few of my favorite calibers in there.
Quick note on CZ ….
Picked up big box of CO2 and 6000 rounds of .177 copper coated bb's. Loaded up 1 co2 cartridge and dry fired a few times out over the deck. From first impressions, it's scary how realistic recoil/operation is! Mom's eyes got big when she saw/heard it, bro thinks it's awesome, dad doesn't want it fired in the house …. . Don't blame him though! She loud! Just like the real one. Got to wear eye/hearing protection with this one for sure. I'll give accuracy update with pics coming up.

This afternoon me and the oldest two boys and two of the neighbor boys went out in the field and sang freedom’s song on this thanksgiving day. We shot the AR I built this last spring and then an assortment of 22s.

My year old English Shepherd pup even joined us. I’ve never seen a collie type dog that likes gun fire like she does. She sits beside you looking at the AR and when we shot she chased down the empty casings. Lol. Then when we went down to check our targets of assorted bottles and junk she’d go too and make sure she stole one to play with.

I don’t know who had more fun: me, the boys, or the pup!

Great lookin' levers there Colonel26 . I'm mightily partial to the Browning BL-22 .22 lever gun myself, after testing her out at the range day back in June. Action is smooth as butter and you don't know when you run out of ammo .
I did try out the Marlin 45-70 guide gun, and it was like getting run over by a mack truck! Dummy me shouldered it for all 3 round .
Quick note on the CZ. Don't ever fire it in doors with bb's! Those things ricochet like crazy back at you. Fired a few shots freehand, in the shop at about 8 paces from target, plywood backstop about 6-7 feet away. Those things penned the target, bounced off the back stop, went back through the the target, hit the roof, the hit the wall behind me, then thumped into the gravel floor, and it was about 0 cel. inside. All I could take away from those first shots, is that she is quite accurate with Crosman "Copperhead" copper coated steel bbs.

You said it dude! Kid's can fend for themselves. Men need to have fun at least once in a while . Lol!
Reviews say that one is a great gun. But like samb said they do burn threw a ton of bb's and co2. But the fun factor ways heavily in it's favor. And copper plated bb's are pennies by the bucket load. Airsoft version would be even more economical, electric batteries and all. And 6mm airsoft bb's are even cheaper.
