Tim, Monk, Bill. Great eye candy.

Ordered this on Wednesday morning from Red Hill Cutlery and it came today. Bear & Sons 'Wharncliffe Stag Bone Lockback'. Box says "Genuine India Stag", but you can see from the pictures, it's not. All the listings say "Sambar Stag Bone". I'm not sure about the "Sambar" part but I would say the handles are "Staged Bone", jigged to look like Stag.

Anyway, it's a nice little knife. Made in USA, of course. My favorite size, 3-5/8" closed. The Wharncliffe blade locks up tight when opened and has good snap when it's closed. Pretty smooth action after a couple of drops of Quick Release (Thank you Scott. A little shameless plug there.). Pretty sharp out of the box and the run-up is as good as any production knife I've seen lately. The only negative I can see is the bolsters. I would like them to be a little thicker to more blend in with the handles. It won't get carried or sharpened but it looks like it would do anything I would ask of it.

Jerry...She's pretty. ::tu:: ....I know what you mean about the bolsters....I have about half a dozen B&S knives.and I feel the same way about the lot. :|
Not only are they to thin...but I would like them better rounded off more..instead of being so flat. ::nod::

::handshake:: egg-zactly. Still a nice knife in spite of that but it could be better with little to no extra cost.

Nice lookin' Bear ya got there Jerry....looks kinda similar to one I picked up a while back!
Bear Wharncliffe Lockback 002.jpg
On mine with the Rosewood handles the bolsters seem to be a bit more well suited to the handles, as the rosewood scales aren't nearly as thick as that nice fat bonestag you've got going on there. I do like that bonestag that Bear uses though, very pleasing to the eye and has a definite heavy duty stag-esqe feeling to it in the hand..
Nice pick up!

Picked this Western up at a yard sale this morning. There were several knives, mostly junk, but this one was kinda' hiddin' in the corner of a box. The guy said $10. Didn't have the heart to dicker with him. Don't think it has been sharpened, only mistreated. I believe it will clean up nicely and I could probably get my money back. Treefarmer
