Ammomen https://www.ammomen.com/ is very small family owned business that sells ammunition. A few years ago when ammo was really hard to find, especially .22LR, these guys had some AND they didn't jack the price up like many other sellers did. Anyway, I happen to be on their email list and got a notice that they are currently unable to complete transactions for their customers because their credit card processor First Data/Card Connect https://www.firstdata.com/en_us/home.html, without notice, stopped processing their credit card transactions because they "don't like guns and ammunition". Anyone who uses First Data solutions to process credit card transaction and sells guns, ammo, knives, or any other "trigger" items might want to proactively seek another processor.

For reference, the full letter from Ammomen is below in case you read this far and might want to read more.

As you may be aware, we have been unable to process your orders since last Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.

Tuesday afternoon our credit card processor exited our contract and closed our feed. What this means is that at 5:00 p.m. we were no longer able to sell ammo. No warning, no explanation. Just shut down.

When we finally got through to someone at the processing center to find out what was going on, their response was "We don't like guns and ammo." We requested a 30-90 day extension so that we might have time to find a 2nd amendment friendly processor. They categorically denied an extension. We can only speculate what sparked their decision.

This is the first time we at Ammomen have been directly affected by a nonsensical liberal decision. Our choices at this point are to accept the restrictions being placed upon us, or to double down on our 2nd amendment freedoms.

We are doubling down!

We have been in contact with a handful of 2nd amendment friendly processors and hope to be back up and running within the next week.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you, our customers, and our suppliers, but we promise to return to operation as soon as possible.

In the mean time, if you do business with First Data/Card Connect, please know that it appears they are not friendly towards 2nd amendment businesses.

We will send another email shortly to announce we are ready to process your orders.

I have said for a long time, if they can't ban the guns they will likely try to starve the ammo. Main reason I have a fairly large stockpile of ammo.

Most of you may have heard but effective this past July 1st, California requires a background check to buy ammo now including already inacted limitations (pretty sure but not positive) on quantity you can buy at one time. You can not circumvent this with online purchase as that is now required to be shipped to an FFL for pickup.

In Nevada, if one has the cash, I can purchase a pallet of ammo if I want and they will gladly forklift it into the back of the truck.

Thank God the Insanity has not fully spread to the entire country............yet.

They tried to pass a law here that basically stated if for instance, I let my grandson borrow my passed down through generations hunting rifle to bag his first buck, I am some sort of criminal. If I stored a gun at my son's place, same punishment.
Nevada has just below 3 million people with 2.3 million in Vegas/ Clark County. They call it Sin City for a reason. Needless to say, that area is left leaning and the mass amount of lefty logic votes impacts us rural folks.
The person behind this is none other than former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg. He happens to be the 9th richest person in the world at 62B. Hmm, who say politics don't pay? He threw 20 million at the law effort I mentioned. He can pound sand and come knock on my door if he likes.
Basically the measure/ question on the ballot passed by a margin of like 8000 votes. The Federal Government told Nevada to shove it since it was poorly written and not enforceable. No doubt they will try again.
We recently did have a law passed from our liberal state government which took effect July 1 I believe that has the whole "red flag" deal whereas if you are deemed by someone saying you to be a danger to yourself or others, they knock or kick in your door and and take your guns.
Needless to say, in a strong Second Amendment and Conservative town, the LEOs are not thrilled or aggressive in that enforcement. Don't foresee alot of door knocking or kicking in my town. If someone is clearly off the rails I am all for that. The word of someone whom is using the law improperly to screw with someone, not on board with that. The law is just too vague in determining whom this will apply to and how it is appealed. This is a gun friendly town, most carry concealed and no one is panicked at the sight of a gun as some might be in other parts of the country. Just a part of life here.

Sorry for the rant. Jerry's post just lit my long fuse and frankly pissed me off but I am glad he posted it. We all need to keep abreast of the slow attack on our most basic fundamental right as foreseen by our countries founders.

I recently picked up this addition to my cowboy shoot arsenal. I had one of these about 20 years ago, and as many of you know "stuff happens" and I traded it for something more appealing at the time. Been kicking myself every since, so I had a chance to get another one I did. It is the Bond Arms Cowboy Defender derringer in 357/38 with a 3 inch barrel.. Kind of a modern edition of the old over/under sidearms carried by many people in the old west. It shoots the same 38 Spl. cowboy load used in the Uberti Bisley shown.

I was going to a lot of SASS cowboy shoots back in the day, and usually the match director would dream up some scenarios for the main match that required 2 pistols, a pistol caliber carbine, and a shotgun. In addition to that there were "side matches" that would require a particular weapon, be it a pocket pistol, derringer, buffalo rifle or other. The derringer matches were a blast. I was at a cowboy shoot in northern Minnesota once where the match director added a derringer match to the program. I had been talking to another fellow that was there and he did not have a derringer and he mentioned that he always wanted to try the derringer matches. I told him to use mine and handed it to him with 2 rounds of ammo. He got in line and paid his entry fee for the side match and soon his turn came. The match required that you would be seated at a table across from a cheating gambler, who was represented by a cardboard cutout that was painted up in realistic garb. Upon hearing the timer beep, the contestant would throw down his hand of cards , which consisted of two aces and three eights, and shout "YOU CHEATING VARMINT". Then with the derringer held underneath the table, the hammer was cocked and a shot fired sight unseen under the table at a 6 inch paper plate on the "gamblers" torso. Closest to the center was the winner. Well the fellow shooting my derringer did well with the first shot, nicking the paper plate without seeing it. But on the second shot he had a little too much elevation and the shot came up thru the table about half way across and traveled across and hit the gambler right between the eyes. After the cloud of wood splinters cleared, a shout went up from the on lookers after they had seen that the "gambler" was indeed dead. Unfortunately, the shooter was DQed, but he got the biggest cheer of the whole day.

In preperation for my upcoming flight in September I stopped into Academy Sports for a handgun lockbox. When I asked the store attendant that was helping me to try one of the Taurus pistols to see how large of a pistol it would accommodate, he grabbed a Taurus G2s. The next thing I know I was buying both the lockbox and the gun. It won't kill bears on my trip to Alaska, but it will protect me against varmints on two legs. Next it's time to go to the range and try it out, the gun not the box.

I finally decided on and got a different rear sight on the Henry single shot 45/70 rifle I pictured here a while back. I went with the Skinner peep sight made in St. Ignatius, Montana by Andy Larsson. What an outstanding piece of work this sight is. When I first took it out of the packaging, I looked at it and said to myself "this isn't what I ordered, it is supposed to have a dovetail insert to adjust for windage". They I got it under better light and up close to the bifocals, and I could see it was there. The machine line for the dovetail is not visible until you look closely for it. Since it mounts at the rear of the barrel, it sits a little higher than the stock open sight and because of that I will have to replace the front sight with one somewhat taller. I have a few different ones on hand from past cowboy shooting lever actions, so I think it will take one about 2 tenths of an inch taller. This sight runs $77 plus shipping, and I had one in only a few days. Andy makes sights for most lever actions, single shots, and other models.

I think you'll like that Taurus G2. I recently picked up the stainless slide version for bit more money. Have over 500 rounds through it with no issue, seems accurate enough for what it is, 12 +1, all good.

Is there a possibility of encountering a bear with where you are and associated activities you plan while there?

Is there a possibility of encountering a bear with where you are and associated activities you plan while there?

It's a joke Jerry, but the cabin where I will be in Alaska I'm sure there will be bears not too far away. Some small communities do have problems with bears coming into neighborhoods from time to time. We have other guns in case there is any bear problems.

I went to the indoor range today to try out my new 9 MM Taurus G2S that I bought yesterday, I was only suppose to be buying a lockbox. Anyway I fired just over 100 rounds at different distances with both hands and one handed. Some shots were good, some not so good, but it was two hours of fun without the sun. The gun fit my hand very good making the recoil easy to control. Even one handed and the 20.8 oz weight, I was able to get back on target easily and get the next round off. The 3 white dot adjustable sights are easy to use. It has a manual and trigger safety locks with a trigger pull of 5-9 lbs making it very smooth and quick. There were no issues at all with the pistol. The pistol has my recommendation.

I live in North West Connecticut. About 3 years ago a large black bear ambled across my front lawn over to the school parking lot.
A few years before that they tranquilized one out of a tree in a cemetery a quarter mile from my house.
There are many bears in Litchfield County.
