Johnnie....I'm glad that was you working on those 35 rentals and not me
The only thing that I liked about it was I learned a lot of different skills.....like how to lay carpet, tile, drywall, roofing, plumbing and even some electrical work. ::nod::
The toughest job was in the set up of new ones that came in.....setting up a double wide or triple was a hard and dangerous job. ::paranoid:: especially if you were working with inexperienced workers. ::facepalm::

Tim....are you a General Contractor....or just run a crew?

Having buddies in the business is a BIG plus! I wish we could have found better painters. We don't have many good ones in our area. Not much skill around here in any field as far as that goes.

Tim

Here's our brochure from the early years.....

Pigsticker......I'm 30 miles west of Springfield, in Jacksonville Il. There's still plenty of work here in the carpentry industry. You just have to shift gears and go after the gov. contracts. Not as self satisfying but the money is good.

Seems that many of us banged nails and slapped paint.

I'm a fair painter still. But driving a truck pays a little better....

SO Dave,

How's that truckin working out for ya?

Still enjoying looking at the world through a windshield?

Every now and then, I see a big old gnarly looking 4 axle haul truck with a whole bunch of wheels and axles behind it (has to have at least thirteen axles to get me to look twice) and think to myself, that looks damn good. About five seconds later I think to myself, NO IT DOESN'T!

;)

Post a pic of your latest ride.

Here's one of my old "town rig" that I moved stuff around town with. It was only 7 axles. The trailer was 53' and had a 12" pin setting. It had about 8" of ground clearance. The back axle didn't lift for running empty and turning shorter.
Image

It was grossing 144K with that picker on it. 12' wide and 13'10" high. OAL was 85' with the overhang on the picker boom. You could tear up a lot s... going around a corner with it if you were of such a mind.

Yes, those were REAL locomotive horns (3 chime Leslies) mounted on the head ache rack. They were a LOT of fun, but would set the brakes if you stayed on 'em for more than 15 seconds. LOL

So what you're saying is, that 'Over Size Load' sign on the front wasn't there to make people think you have a big whanger? ::oh_my:: ::rotflol:: ::tease::

That's a hell of a rig. You can add driving one of those monsters to the list of careers I'm glad weren't mine. You're a better man than I am, Willie me lad.

Willie, I will say that is a huge responsibility to drive something like that. My hat's off to you.
It seems like so much of the route, and general road conditions are out of your controle.

Aw shucks. Thanks fellers. Linnea made it a special day. I got a Cub's t-shirt, a gift card for my favorite grocery store, a gift card for my favorite place to go out to breakfast, a new toaster with the Cub's logo on it AND it puts the Cub's logo on the piece of toast and last but not least a desktop Marine Corps flag holder with my name and dates of service on it. Too cool for school. We drove up to Milwaukee and had lunch at a very good Mexican restaurant then took a paddle boat for a trip around the lagoon down on the lake front. She had made a peach pie for me so when we got back, we had a piece of pie and played a game of cribbage (which I lost :( )

Her youngest daughter had the flag holder custom made during her last trip to the Philippines.

Good for you Jerry, a cub scout T shirt and every thing. That's great. And what was that? Pie and cribbage when you got back? Ya, OK! Glad you had a nice time.

No, Joe. Not a Cub Scout t-shirt. Chicago Cub's baseball team t-shirt. This being a knife forum and with the current very active scout knife thread going full blast, I can see how that would be confusing. :?

Yes T.J. It's difficult to choke out the words but they do make a White Sox toaster and if you were talking about the Red Sox, they make one of those as well.
