It doesn't look exactly like this anymore. It's kind of fat and clunky. But it has one of my sharpest blades in it!

Took a long Fathers Day weekend, down on the ocean at Atlantic Beach NC right now. I wanted a stainless steel pocketknife with a beer cap lifter, so I pulled out this SAK; got this one around 1990 at the Ft Lewis WA PX.

Very nice SAK Old Hunter! ::tu:: That's a "Tinker" model, isn't it? I still have the scar where I cut myself with the old scout knife I picked up in the PX at Ft. Polk, LA in '72! ::facepalm:: ::rotflol:: I gave it to my eldest son when he was in the Boy Scouts and I guess he still has it. ::shrug::

Vieu, nice EO!

Charlie, yep it is a Tinker model, I haven't used it in years.

GD, there are some golf courses around here, but the big golf resorts are really situated south of here from Wilmington to Myrtle Beach SC. This beach is a little quieter and old fashioned (smaller, older beach houses and fewer condos.)

So, I spent a long weekend in Chicago (side trip to Milwaukee) for my nephew's wedding. Among the duties I had was assisting my 94 year old father in law (a saint). We had, I mean really had to be in the lobby of the hotel at 1:10 for a pick up, to ensure he made it to the wedding. I go by his room at 1:05. My sister in law was in a tizzy and not ready (sigh) and her dad was sort of lost. The new belt for his suit was too big.

"Dave, I need something to punch a hole in this belt. It's too big."

I was able to eek out a new hole with the tip of my 5OT and got him down to the limo right at 1:10. Day saved.

Spending 5 days with only 2 knives made me ... nervous. I also am starting to realize or accept that having the Opinel #10 is a total game changer. It rides in my PDA pouch and is always at hand. It locks and is big enough for just about anything. The 3" lockers are getting less use (Buck 112 and 500 and Opinel #9 gone to a new home). The EDC rotation is down to 3: the filed down Opinel #8, the 5OT and this one, which I should have had with me in Chicago...

Back home from the beach, the Victorinox is back in the drawer and this Old Cutler Texas Jack is back in my pocket. The SAK did it's job fine at the beach (opening beer bottles for me and the Mrs. and cutting the tags off the clothes she and my daughter bought at the beach shops). I enjoy the beach, but glad to be home.

I might go days without needing a knife at all.

Then even though I carry 4 I usually pull out my Sanrenmu 763 Axis Lock when I do need one.

Most of what I any more is just show off how sharp they are!

I carry 3 or 4 knives most of the time too. It's the size and nature of the job that determines which knife I grab. I've almost always got an SAK in the combination and it gets pulled out most often because I use a toothpick after every meal!
