Been moving stuff so I took a couple of pictures when pulling stuff out of the closet. A M1 Carbine and a Czech made WWII Mountain Troops Mauser. Both shoot pretty well, reliable and accurate, especially for old guns. OH

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
I got me another project at the gun show.
This one is a Colt thunderer..... 41 colt caliber.
I have already straightened the frame and I discovered there is a Lightning cylinder in it! CRAP.... BUT, I did find a Thunderer cylinder and it is on the way.
I love these old pistols!

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
Hi Mike,
Nice old Colt. I have one as well, given to me by my father in law. It is the only gun I have that I have not fired, since it is over 100 yrs old. It seems to function just fine, just haven't ever bought any ammo for it. I know the timing on these has to be just right, and they are supposed to be complicated to work on.
Mine was made in 1903. Here is the Colt serial number lookup: https://www.colt.com/serial-lookup

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
Yours has the ejector rod.... VERY nice.
Both my Lightning and Thunderer are "store-keeper" models. (No ejector rod)
You have to be REAL careful if you plan to shoot these old ones. The old ammo like 41 Colt is not the same as 41 CF now-a-days. Back in the day.... Colt, Winchester and S&W especially made guns chambered in their proprietary ammo.
i.e....
Besides 38 special, there is 38 short Colt, 38 long Colt, 38 S&W and I am sure others..... (that was what I was able to pull off the top of my head....LOL)
Here is another pistol I got at the show.....
It is 38 RIMFIRE..... (and yes... there is 38 LONG rimfire and 38 SHORT rimfire..... What a mess.)

Don't you also have to worry about whether a 100 year old pistol was intended to fire black powder or smokeless cartridges?

Yep.... shore do.TwoFlowersLuggage wrote:Don't you also have to worry about whether a 100 year old pistol was intended to fire black powder or smokeless cartridges?
The pistol above that shoots the 38 rim fire cartridges is a 1880's pistol and the cartridges I found for it are black powder rim fire cartridges.
I probably won't shoot it..... cartridges are $5 each.
I also have a 41 rimfire pistol. The cartridges for it were $15 each..... I shore aint gonna shoot it...... LOL.

I went back and looked at your pics..... I see the words "cleans, lubricates, protects"
I use a product simply know as CLP.... and that is what the letters stand for....
I am not sure what chemicals exactly ARE IN CLP but I like it... I have used it for years. I even clean knives with it.

Somebody gave substantial thought to the design of that bottle and label. Exceptionally good packaging.

Good idea Gino....gino wrote:Thanks Mike

If you have read very many of my threads, you know I get my enjoyment of knifes from "going to the 'pound" and "rescuing" knives.
I look for the sad old neglected knives. I usually take a rusted knife and sit it on my bench. Then I will fill the blade well with CLP and let it sit for a couple of days. It sure makes the rust easier to deal with. I leaned this from doing the same thing to old rusted firearms. It worked great on them so I figured it would work on knives too.

I agree I bought it at the largest private owned firearms dealer in the Pittsburgh and surrounding area and the owner recommended it saying it’s what he used on all his personal gunsQuick Steel wrote:Somebody gave substantial thought to the design of that bottle and label. I took a shot on it and am well pleased so far

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
I've heard good things about both of those. Me, I use Balistol for just about everything on firearms an knives; metal, wood, leather, bone, etc.... It emulsifies with water so even wet it lubes and protects. Keeps knife blades from rusting real well, even in the summer when it's humid and they're exposed to sweat. It's even food grade so it won't kill you if you slice your apple and have some on the blade, lol.

I use CLP Break Free on all my firearms as well.
CLP stands for Cleaner, Lubricant, Preservative.
I also use Hoppes.

Wade, I favor Ballistol for cleaning old leather too - it will clean and prevent the mold that grows on old leather very quickly. OH

Academy has their Blazer Brass case ammo on sale for $79, plus there is a $20 rebate, brings it down to $59 for 300 rds of .45. Plus free shipping.
or $64 for 500 rds of 9mm.
Not a bad price for brass case ammo.

Been looking for one of these holsters for awhile, Bianchi 111 Cyclone crossdraw for Ruger GP100-4 inch. Sure makes carrying a lot easier when sitting in a vehicle. Sure new ones are available for $60, picked up this slightly used one at a gunshow last weekend for $10. More cash for knives that way!!

Just under 3 cents a round....like it USED to be!

OC, You have a good looking set up. And your GP 100, as you know, is as rugged and reliable as a handgun gets.

That's a nice looking holster, especially for that price! Crossdraw is hard to beat when you want to carry a blade on the strong side. I've seen quite a few old west pictures of folks doing that, and many characters did it in lonesome dove as well. It just makes sense to me.OLDE CUTLER wrote:Been looking for one of these holsters for awhile, Bianchi 111 Cyclone crossdraw for Ruger GP100-4 inch. I'm pretty much settled on buying a 4" GP, but I have not decided on what holster or if I want to spend extra money for some nicer looking wood grips.

Nice rig there OC. I’ve been looking for something to tote my S&W 65 4 inch around in. I’ve been looking at a high riding pancake holster like the Galco combat master for CC under a coat this winter. I’d sure like to find a deal on one like yours!OLDE CUTLER wrote:Been looking for one of these holsters for awhile, Bianchi 111 Cyclone crossdraw for Ruger GP100-4 inch.
