What Else Do You Collect Besides Knives?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

My recent hobby-

Definitely takes up more space than pocket knives.

I've enjoyed learning how these work and the electronic aspects and maintenance.

Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Nice layout! I'm currently working on some Marklin stuff, but I think Lionel is the way to go. Parts are easier to get, and cheaper (not to mention, there's a fully servicing dealer about two hours from here--and company HQ is in Charlotte, NC) and a lot more people that work with them. Time to get my worn out Scout back running. I am a big fan of diecast bodies, but I[m beginning to think most model trains are plastic for a reason--it puts less strain on the motor, allowing them to pull more.

I've collected model horses occasionally since 2006, when we had a new Tractor Supply open up, as well as a small variety store who was also a Breyer dealer. Walmart occasionally has had them off and on. At the time, the selection was really good.

Tractor Supply really cut back, the small variety store stopped selling Breyer (and closed earlier this year after about 6 years of not selling Breyer). I've not really bought any online, but plan to. I want a true, older USA-made Breyer from the '70s or earlier. I have several different scales, and most are Breyer.

Traditional (1:9 scale)

Western Prancer, Chestnut from 2014 (a Warehouse Find semi-reissue of Gene Autry's Champion from the 2000-2004 Hollywood Heroes Series; using leftover parts) He's marked BREYER USA but I don't know if he's actually made in the US or not. His original run was; from the introduction of the Western Prancer mold as one of Breyer's first horses in 1963 to the 2004 Hollywood Heroes line.
100_0970.JPG

He is paired with Dolores Abernathy from the Diamond Select Toys Westworld line (1:10/7-inch scale). Breyer has their own line of riders, but the articulation is limited, and they are designed to look like dolls with oversized heads. It surprises me how little Western stuff is produced in terms of action figures. You've got the Marx line from the '60s and '70s, some assorted "flash in the pan" lines from various companies, and then the Westworld line. That's about it over the course of 50 years. This "Outlaw" version of Dolores was the only female figure that I could find that was capable of riding a horse. Luckily the Westworld line was never popular and tends to go for much less than their $20 MSRP in 2019. She cost me just $10. She came with open hands that can't hold anything, and her Colt revolver is molded as a part of the holster.
100_0983.JPG

Big Chex To Cash is a long-running, and very popular Breyer model of a very successful reining horse, having been introduced in 2008 when the horse that served as a basis was just 6, and still is being sold today. I got him in 2008 as a Christmas gift. Planning on getting a Western tack set for him, but they're pricey.
100_0978.JPG

Sayen was issued in 2021 as a Tractor Supply Exclusive--bought early this year at a deep discount from my local Tractor Supply (MSRP $40, I paid $14). The Indian Pony tooling dates to the mid '70s, and has only been used sporadically in the past 15 years--usually as special runs.
100_0984.JPG
GTR Patrick's Vindicator (aka Patrick the Mini Horse), an American Miniature Horse, only produced a couple of years--I think 2019 and 2020.

100_0985.JPG
I've never seen a Breyer horse so tiny. On the shelf, I thought he was a smaller scale.

I’ve always been fascinated with watches ever since my childhood days but I’ve never really considered myself a watch collector. Lately I’ve been thinking that maybe I’m in denial about that.

I only have 6 wrist watches and 2 pocket watches but they were acquired over the course of 8 years. My most recent purchase was the Orient Ray 2. The one with the blue dial. That purchase has gotten me looking at watches again and there are several models out there that I’d like to have. I don’t really want to go down that rabbit hole so I’m trying not to.

Nothing terribly expensive here but I like them all. From left to right:

Casio G-Shock GA-800-1A. Quartz
Ball Railroader. Quartz
Pulsar 3293 Chronograph. Quartz
Citizen Promaster Tough. Solar/Quartz
Orient Ray 2. Mechanical/Automatic
No name watch that my employer gave me for 25 years of service. Quartz

Thanks, Tom. It's mainly O Gauge Lionel, the track is actually O-27 which is the tightest curve, since I have limited space. I call it Landmark Yards, and as you can see the yards is pretty full. I'm using 3 AC transformers from 50 - 110 Watts.

O Gauge. Wow, that's even bigger than HO. ::hmm:: AC transformers. ::hmm:: Digital is probably more than I'd be smart enough for. ::hmm::

Edit: On second thought I think I'll just stick to my pocket knives, Matchbox cars, & license plates. Another Hobby and I may be looking for trouble.  Does look like fun though. ::nod:: ::tu:: ::super_happy::

I was collecting autographs, but life kept me from pursuing them so vigorously. My mother was an elevator girl at the old Townhouse Hotel in Kansas City, Kansas in the fifties and she got a few autographs while she worked there. The Townhouse is known as the hotel Patsy Cline stayed in before boarding her last flight. Mom had already left there by that time. My collection includes...

Bob Denver, Dawn Wells and Russell Johnson (Gilligan, Mary Ann and the Professor)
Jerry Lewis
Don Knotts
Johnny Cash
The Wilburn Brothers
Roy Acuff
Frank White (former Royals second baseman)
Albert Lewis (former Chiefs and Raiders cornerback)
Bob Barker
Freddy Fender
Ed Asner
Jennifer Jones
All four original members of KISS
Wrestling manager, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan
Wrestler, Sid Vicious
Bill Clinton (My grandparents got that one when he was running for Governor of Arkansas)
Michael Tucker (former Royals outfielder)

There's a few more, but I can't remember them. I have them packed away in hopes of displaying them in my home at some point.

Schleich and Bullyland are both German brands, and thus probably easier to find in your neck of the woods. Tractor Supply's had them here since they opened, along with Breyer. A couple other stores sold them, albeit briefly.

I have about half a dozen horses from Schleich, as well as a few dogs, cattle, and wildlife (Schleich is also very well known for their Smurfs line).he scale is usually somewhere around 1:18-1:20, which is just right. They are big enough to display a good amount of detail, but small enough to not take up much room. They also aren't that fragile--if one falls from a shelf, the worst problem is a paint scuff.
IMG_20220829_142626.jpg
There's a third brand called "WIA" that originally did super-expensive high-end resin horses in 1:9 scale. Recently, they started offering 1:18 horses based on the same sculpts/designs. They are said to be made by Bullyland and are the same rubbery plastic material as Schleich. However, the detail is much more than Schleich and about equal to the big 1:9 Breyer horse.

I don't have any (MSRP is around $20-30, about double what I normally pay for Schleich at local stores, and they're only found online). I found one that a seller threw in a Breyer lot for $10 (that includes about half a dozen Stablemates, including an early one), but it has a mold defect on the belly and a couple tiny paint defects.

Hi Cody,

Just checked eBay & yes we have Schleich and Bullyland. Lots of them! ::nod:: So I checked if they might have dogs so I could look for dogs that look like my dogs. Yes, they have a few thousand dogs. That should keep me busy for a while. ::nod::
