Man do I love that Empire shown above. Have you had it long? The blades look as though they weren't used that much. Lots of metal left on those babies. Love that Bone color too.

That Catt is really beautiful, rugmar.
It has quite the stout punch.
I have a few Cattaraugus knives but none with that nice round shield.

Thanks for the really nice comments on the Catt I posted. I have questions about it still. Does anyone know if the shield was originally inscribed with something or was it plain from the beginning? Also does anyone know what the C stands for at the end of 32209C which is stamped on the back of the main blade? I think 3 is for the number of blades, 2 is the number of bolsters, 20 is the pattern number and 9 is the handle material. Is the C for the clip blade?

This is an old Empire. Blades & back springs are dark. Has a few nicks in the cutting edge. But not bad for 100 years old.

Barry that handle looks a lot like this two blade jack I have. Is that knife 4 1/4 inches closed?

Greg, That Empire 4 1/4" Jack is a beauty. My cattle knife is only 3 5/8" closed. The bone on both those knives is very appealing.

Schrade definitely got something from the Ulster jigging Ken. I say Ulster laid the egg that hatched into peach seed.

That's a nice one KAW. I would recommend that you pocket that one and try it out a little. There is no knife that is as small and handy that can do it all and look so good quite like an old and slim 3 3/8" jr cattle.

It's my suspicion that the ulster 3 3/8" cattles like yours were made by schrade during the cut or early walden era. I have the same ulster and comparing it to my early sw 856's they are the same in blade dimensions, grinds and swedges. All other dimensions are the same as well; I think the peachseed just confirms it.

I was under the impression that this tang stamp is pre-Baer era when the two entities were still separate companies with no connection to each other yet... that being Schrade Cutlery Co, and Ulster Knife Co.?

Isn't peachseed bone a Schrade innovation? I remember reading that only Schrade had the machining necessary for that jigging effect. If the Ulster is pre-Baer then I do think that knife is a Schrade build, and I know Paul likely has enough old Schrades on hand to prove it.

I think peachseed was invented by schrade and they were the only ones that did it. Now Herman Williams is the only one who does it like old schrade.

There are ulsters that have peachseed delrin but those are from when schrade and ulster were both in ellenville.
