I like finding old chimneys and foundations in the woods. I look for old trash piles near by. Sometimes I get lucky and find old bottles and jars. Thats a good picture. That chimney looks much older than the ones I find around here. Thanks for sharing

That looks more like an old iron works smelter than a chimney or maybe it isn't as large as it looks in the photos.

We have a very similar structure here outside Birmingham, called The Brierfield Iron Works, inside Tannehill State Park, that made iron for The Confederacy.

Better keep that quiet Charlie, or the politically correct deniers of history will tear it down and obliterate all evidence it ever existed!

Charlie is correct.. It was BIG.. Iron Furnace built in 1840 operated for 10yrs.. Produce 3 tons of pig iron per day..8 men ran it in the winter, shut down in summer.. Consumed 100 acres of woodland per yr..

MH.. Ya posted some really interesting/KOOL pics there!!! John :D

bighomer: I love those big clear shots of the Downy. And it is a plus to see that you did not add coloring to the nectar.

This evening about sunset I heard the Guinea fowl raising a racket. When I went to investigate I found they had a possum surrounded and were giving it "what-for" but it wasn't bothered a bit. The poor critter was eating a peach it found on the ground in the orchard.

MH, you are good photographer and artist. I like all your pics. Ken possums are cool! They seldom get upset.

Thanks for the compliment, I've been takin' pictures since the late 70s. Back when we used film and went to these little buildings in mall parking lots to drop it off to be developed. ;)

Taken in an old church in Vienna, weren't allowed to use flash photography so I took advantage of the longer exposure needed and the people milling about became ghosts.

That's a cool pic too. A beautiful old world church. The craftsmanship that was put into those churches is seldom seen today.

Some pics of iconic Texas ranches. All these were founded in the 1800's and are still operating today. I believe the Matador Ranch is the smallest at about 130,000 acres.

I toured the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Ky. yesterday where I photographed these barrels of bourbon stored in the warehouse waiting for their moment to arrive. Some of it becomes W.L. Weller bourbon, my personal favorite. It's bottled in the building shown in the last photo.

I've never tried W.L. Weller because it's a bit more than I normally spend but I've had Buffalo Trace and I'm not fond of it. Maybe it's the wheat they use as the flavor grain instead of Rye. ::shrug::
