Actually, there is a rather large GE plant in Pensacola, Florida, where wind turbines are built. I have worked there several times. Now I do not know exactly what components are made there and what might be imported, but the completed turbines leave that plant by truck and by rail. Always headed west!

I vividly recall the first time I saw a wind turbine farm. It was in Oklahoma in 2008 and I was reminded of the alien war machines in War of the Worlds. My daughter was as fascinated as I was by a kind of science fiction machine become real.

Seems like I recall T. Boone Pickens contracting with that plant for quite a number of those turbines. I suppose he has them scattered around in Oklahoma.

Mr. Pickens has advocated for a virtual corridor of wind turbines stretching from Texas to the Canadian border. Again, with us making up for any deficit.

A number of years ago there used to be a wind farm down at South Point here on the Big Island of Hawaii (which has since been removed). One time I stood directly underneath one of the giant turbines as it was spinning at high speed...You'd think they would be fairly silent but they're actually quite loud, and the vibrations it created were downright spooky, like an alien mothership hovering overhead...FREAKY!!!

For it's worth I have personally viewed a ship carrying those gigantic fan blades steaming up the Columbia towards the Port of Longview and Portland. Have no idea as to ownership only that it was foreign flagged as are the great majority of vessels coming thru here. Should you want to you can look on Google Satellite maps at Goldendale Washington. A few miles SouthEast . There lies many of the gigantic power windmills you are speaking of. GIANTS. By the way Philco that was a great photo of Crown Point you posted. Should any of you want to build a small one of your own, You can convert an old electric motor to a generator with only a couple of capacitors. You can look it up on Google.

There's a lot of them around OK, I see them all the time. I don't like them, a blight upon the landscape.

I HATE the thought of killing Eagles or any other birds for that matter by those wind turbines..

So yesterday morning as I was tightening my belt on the buckle exploded (I mean this in the most literal sense). I gave my dad a call and asked him if he had a belt I could borrow. He said no but might have one that was his dad's that would fit. I went over and we found this one, the inlays on it look like abalone but I'm not sure. It's very enjoyable wearing my grandfathers old belt, I never got to meet him so things like this mean a lot to me. Anyways I thought I'd share the riveting story of my new old belt, it looks just right with a schrade lb7 sheath on it

Great buckle Paul and a family heirloom to boot, what's not to love. I have a pile of them things around here. They're kinda like knives they have a tendency to accumulate somehow or another.

I have another buckle somewhere that was also my grandfathers, it has a coin of some kind in it. I'll dig it out tonight.

Here we have a head scratcher. It has In God we Trust across the top.
It has the first 3 1/2 words of Liberty. The reverse is quite worn but everything that should there is. The black area is smooth as silk. The only tactical feel is the dot/bump in the center.

Even if it were purposely done, how did they get it so interesting.
It came out of what would have been 5 skunk rolls in a row.

I truly have to say that you are all showing some really interesting items. Here are a few photo's from the last vacation my wife and I took together. The ones of you on the east coast may have seen similar. I remember when this took place in Squaw Valley Calif. on the West shore of Lake Tahoe. The 1958 Winter Olympics. Probably before most of you were born. The last territorial view is looking North at Reno Nevada from a view point just below Silver City Nv.

Off road races this weekend in henryetta, ok at a lake. Nice place, it's going to be a messy one though. This is just after the start. The woods trails are greasy, with many ruts and exposed roots and rocks.

The last two numerals on that penny are 08. Means it has to have been a 2008.
The D mint mark is there too. On a coin forum they think it's coated with shellac or something. I do not believe that to be the case. I still wonder how it was done.

You could check to see if that coating is conductive by using a VOM. Since it's black in color it might be a fairly high silver content solder. A dab of Tarnix (or however it's spelled) would lessen or remove the black coloration if that's the case.

You've hit the nail directly on the head Black Lion. I have no way on earth to acquire a metal detector. Coin rolls are pretty much the only way I have to search.
I only need three modern coins. A 2009P with the proper reverse will fill the last hole in my Harris 1975 to 2013 folder. A better 2005D and 1999P get me from 2016 back to 1967 in flips. 66D, 65D, 54P 51P and 41D get me back to 1941.

On a different but similar subject. The 90s and 00s tone up more than other years. This 2011 has reddish maroonish tint that looks great in person.

I LOVE old tractors.. Followed this down the road a few winters ago hoping he would stop some where so I could take a few pics.. He did.. Said he was bringing it home from the resto shop.. We chatted for a while before I let him go.. Looks Good!! John
