This Belknap get's the nod most Sunday mornings but the rest of the day went to the Buck Slimline Trapper that a friend just gave me. I don't have a pic of it yet.

Hey Scott, are you going to be reviewing that Kershaw Needs Work? I've almost pulled the trigger on one of those numerous times since they came out a few years ago, but never actually did it. Seems like it would be a solid work knife for sure, but also thought it might prove to be a bit bulky, and was unsure about the handle grips as well...doesn't it have sort of a zany looking pocket clip too?

Not normally a great fan of the Muskrat pattern, don't ask me why. Then I saw what Dale had done, turning one into a custom easy opener and I half copied him - had this old Edge Muskrat, great steel, with very poor fit and finish - so I cleaned it up a little, ground the spring flush with the liners at the back - and added two cutouts to make it easier to open - something that really irritated me on this knife as the nail nicks were below the liner line.
Strangely enough, for a knife with such dodgy fit and finish, it has proper, genuine bone scales....

And now I really like it - have been using it for a few days and it is definitely going into the EDC rotation.

Smokepole, that is a cool modification.

Thanks Old Hunter - I am also glad it worked out so well - really made it into one that I now like and use often. The one redeeming characteristic it's always had is good German steel - it takes a wicked edge and holds it well.

I normally carry a 3" to 3-3/8" pocket knife in my left front pocket, but on rare occasions I add a 4" along side my wallet in the left rear pocket of jeans. Yesterday I decided to carry this recently acquired 4" jack in my front right pocket (pretty hot already so I wore shorts) - was pleasantly surprised that it carried very nicely (not too heavy or bulky) in my front pocket - might just carry it again today.

Continuing with the theme of carrying smaller, more people friendly knives in the RFP while the larger Opinel #9 rides as back up next to my iPod in its case, today I'm carrying the #8 (middle of this picture). I continue to be more at peace with less blade in the pocket knowing that I have more blade quick at hand. In fact, now that I've warmed up to the idea of carrying a larger knife as a back up, I'm going to get a #10 which will get the drop point/thinned handle/easy-open treatment. All due respect to my Buck 110, it's too heavy to ride as back up. In any event, today's EDC is in the middle here...
