Nice one Skip, I really like these with the painted handles. First one I have seen with the inked on advertising on the handle ::tu::

A few days ago, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be added to this topic or thread. It also becomes the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY (1916-1919), one blade, one tang stamp, 2 7/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "EAGLE (over) KNIFE CO" While this pocket knife is most definitely NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. This pocket knife is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE CO., INC., the VALLEY FORGE CUTLERY COMPANY and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple construction. The blade has a CRISP half stop, with a GOOD opening snap and a GOOD closing snap. This pocket knife came with a little suede carrier or sheath. I do NOT know if it originally came with this pocket knife. However, it is the same size and basically the same shape as the pocket knife. So, who knows.....Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It did need a little bit of cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is. Or rather, here they are.

Recently, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife "oddity." It is my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It is also the latest example to be added to my collection. It is either a SHAPLEIGH HARDWARE COMPANY or an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, one blade, one tang stamp, one handle stamp, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. This is a pocket knife "oddity" because it has a SHAPLEIGH HARDWARE COMPANY blade with an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY handle. This is my second "oddity" involving a SHAPLEIGH HARDWARE COMPANY blade with an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY handle. The main blade front tang stamp is the curved or arched style and says "SHAPLEIGH HDW. Co. (over) St. LOUIS (over) U.S.A" The handle stamp says "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY (1917-1925), pocket knives with one blade, with the same handle pattern or style, have three parts. The three parts are, the blade, the handle and the pivot pin. After comparing the pivot pin used with this pocket knife and the pivot pins used with my other ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, one blade, same handle pattern or style pocket knives, I am 99.999% sure that the pivot pin used with this pocket knife, is an original ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pivot pin. So, this pocket knife is two thirds ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY and one third SHAPLEIGH HARDWARE COMPANY. Another example, I think, of a previous owner combining surviving parts of two, different pocket knives, to make one, functional, pocket knife. I do NOT believe that this was an attempt to deceive any potential buyer. While two SHAPLEIGH HARDWARE COMPANY blades on two ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY handles "MIGHT" just be a coincidence, I am now beginning to think that the SHAPLEIGH HARDWARE COMPANY was actually connected with the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY much like ULERY was connected with the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY. My other ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife "oddities" were posted, by me, under and throughout this topic or thread. One "oddity" (the VERY last picture below), was posted back on Sunday, June 4, 2023 (SHAPLEIGH HARDWARE COMPANY blade, ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY handle). Another "oddity" was posted on Saturday, February 3, 2024 (REMINGTON UMC R142 blade, ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY handle). Another "oddity" was posted on Monday, February 12, 2024 (CUT OUTS in the handle). Yet another "oddity" was posted on Friday, February 16, 2024 (a two line patent date handle stamp, instead of a three line patent date handle stamp) This blade does have a VERY CRISP half stop, along with a WICKED opening snap and a WICKED closing snap. This pocket knife is in GOOD condition. I did have to clean it up a bit.
I took some pictures and here it is.

Recently, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also becomes the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an UNBRANDED, one blade, one tang stamp, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp is the curved or arched style and says, "MADE IN (over) USA" While this pocket knife is most certainly NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY (1917-1925) pocket knife, it does come the closest to resembling an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife and it definitely DOES fit into the "cousin" category. This pocket knife is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE COMPANY INC., the EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY, the VALLEY FORGE CUTLERY COMPANY and other knife or cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple construction. This is my fifth pocket knife in this pattern or style. My other four UNBRANDED pocket knives, in this particular pattern or style, have ALL been previously posted under and throughout this topic or thread. The main blade has a VERY CRISP half stop, a VERY GOOD opening snap and a VERY GOOD closing snap. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It did NOT require any cleaning at all. I took some pictures and here it is.

Recently, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to join my collection. It is an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, NEWBURGH N.Y. (1917-1925), one blade, two handle stamps, 4 1/8" closed, all metal, pattern No. 30, hawkbill pocket knife. The manufacturer handle stamp says, "ALLEN (over) CUTLERY CO. (over) NEWBURGH, N.Y." The patent date handle stamp says, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." There is NO tang stamp. This is my sixth ALLEN, No. 30, hawkbill pocket knife. My other five, ALLEN No. 30, hawkbill pocket knives, have ALL been previously posted under and throughout this topic or thread. The blade has a VERY CRISP half stop. The blade has a VERY WICKED opening snap and the blade has a VERY WICKED, FINGER REMOVING, closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. I did have to clean it up a little bit. I took some pictures and here it is. I do apologize for the various shades of green. My camera is VERY temperamental. The last picture is of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pattern ad.

A couple of days ago, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY (1916-1919), two blades, two tang stamps, 3 3/8" closed, one spring, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "EAGLE KNIFE CO (over) PAT. ALL'D. (over) MADE IN USA" The secondary blade front tang stamp also says, "EAGLE KNIFE CO (over) PAT. ALL'D (over) MADE IN USA" This pocket knife is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE CO., INC. and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple construction. The main blade appears to have been reshaped. The main blade, NASTY SHARP, has a SOFT half stop. The main blade has NO opening snap. The main blade has an OK closing snap. The secondary blade, VERY SHARP, also has a SOFT half stop. The secondary blade has NO opening snap. The secondary blade has NO closing snap. But overall, this pocket knife is still in FAIR+ condition. It did require a little bit of cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Both the title for the ad and the description in the ad, for this pocket knife, said that it is a "Salesman Sample."
I bought it because it is an "ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY" pocket knife, NOT because it might be a "Salesman Sample." But, if it is indeed a "Salesman Sample", then I accidentally erased the only evidence or proof that it is a "Salesman Sample." The markings, "02 g p u (?)", that were on the back of the blade are now gone. The very last picture, #10, shows the markings on the back of the blade before I accidentally erased them. This picture is the seller's picture, it is NOT mine.

When I realized that I had erased the markings, I was QUITE UPSET with myself. Hopefully, I
will be able to track down and obtain, another Allen Cutlery Company "Salesman Sample."

This morning, my trip to the post office produced this advertising or souvenir pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an ETCHED P. CO., one blade, one tang stamp, a cap lifter or bottle opener handle, 3" closed, all metal, advertising or souvenir, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "ETCHED P. Co. (over) L.I.C.,N.Y." (Per GOINS, "Etched in L.I.C.N.Y. c 1933.") The main handle side says, "Derby Cream ALE" and has drink related graphics. The other handle side says, "Congress BEER" and it also has drink related graphics. This is pocket knife number twenty-eight, in this pattern or style. My other twenty-seven, in this pattern or style, are ALL posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. This is my first pocket knife, in this pattern or style, that advertises these products. I bought this particular pattern or style of pocket knife because it is a "cousin" of the Allen Cutlery Company, the Eagle Knife Company and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. The blade does have a SOFT half stop. The blade does have an OK opening snap. The blade does NOT have a closing snap. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Thank you, Ike.🍻
Looks like G. SCHRADE and ETCHED P. Co. (see my last post),
were taking advantage of the repeal of the Volstead Act (Prohibition).
I hope to find more beer and or alcohol related pocket knives in this particular pattern or style.

This morning, my trip to the post office produced this advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a G. SCHRADE, one blade, a cap lifter or bottle opener handle, 3" closed, one tang stamp, all metal, advertising, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp (very faint) says, "G. SCHRADE (over) KNIFE CO. INC. (over) B' PORT, CT. (over) U.S.A." The main handle side says, "MORE FLAVOR FOR YOUR MONEY SunCrest." The other handle side says, "SunCrest MORE FLAVOR FOR YOUR MONEY." Overall, this is pocket knife number thirty, in this pattern or style. This is my fifth pocket knife that advertises this particular product. I bought this pattern or style of pocket knife because it is a "cousin" of the Allen Cutlery Company, the Eagle Knife Company and some other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. ALL of my other pocket knives, in this pattern or style, are posted under and throughout, this topic or thread. The blade does have a SOFT half stop. The blade does have an OK opening snap. The blade does NOT have a closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in FAIR condition. It did need cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Awwww Skip, you are bringing back some old memories. I had an Uncle who was a big fan of flavored pop. Every Summertime family get together he brought a big old metal ccoler stocked with bottles of Sun Crest. It was a great treat on a hot day!

Nice aquisition!!!!

A couple of days ago, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY (1916-1919), one blade, one tang stamp, 3 3/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "EAGLE KNIFE CO (over) PAT. OCT. 1. 18 (over) MADE IN USA" I purchased this particular pattern or style of pocket knife because it is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE CO., INC. and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple construction. The main blade (VERY SHARP!!) does have a VERY CRISP half stop. The main blade does have a NASTY opening snap. The main blade does have a NASTY closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning. I just wiped it off.
I took some pictures and here it is.

I already edited this post. But, ANY previous post involving EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY or related pocket knives
(CRUSADER & DIXON), should NOT have "one spring" or "single spring" in the description of the pocket knife.
The "spring" on ALL of these pocket knives, is the "bend" which forms the bottom of each pocket knife.

This morning, my trip to the post office produced this advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a U.S.A., one blade, cap lifter or bottle opener handle, 3" closed, all metal, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It does have the "U.S.A." stamp on the main handle side, just above the pivot pin. It has a slide lock that unlocks the blade, open or closed and it also locks the blade, open or closed. The slide lock still functions as it was designed. The main handle side says, "HENRY VOELCKER - DANVILLE, PA." The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. This is my twenty-first pocket knife in this fob or key ring, slide lock pattern or style. My other twenty pocket knives in this fob or key ring, slide lock pattern or style, have ALL been previously posted under and throughout this topic or thread. I bought this pocket knife because it is a "cousin" of the Allen Cutlery Company, the Eagle Knife Company, the G. Schrade Knife Company and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It needed VERY little cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Very recently, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY (1916-1919), one blade, one tool (a cap lifter or bottle opener), one tang stamp, 3 3/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. This pocket knife does NOT have a bail. The main blade front tang stamp says, "EAGLE KNIFE CO (over) PAT. OCT. 1.18 (over) MADE IN USA" The main handle side is a ruler that measures in 8ths of an inch. The main handle side says, "SCOUT KNIFE" This pocket knife is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE CO., INC., the VALLEY FORGE CUTLERY CO., and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple construction. The main blade does have a WEAK half stop. The main blade does NOT have an opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. The cap lifter or bottle opener tool opens and closes with no problem. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

This morning, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also becomes the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a REMINGTON UMC, one blade, two tang stamps, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp is the curved or arched style and says, "MADE IN (over) USA" The main blade back tang stamp says, "REMINGTON (over) UMC (both inside a circle) and "MADE IN" (vertical to the right of the circle), with "U.S.A." (vertical to the left of the circle). While this pocket knife is most certainly NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY (1917-1925) pocket knife, it does come the closest to resembling an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife and it definitely DOES fit into the "cousin" category. This is my sixth pocket knife in this pattern or style. My other five "MADE IN U.S.A." pocket knives, in this particular pattern or style, have ALL been previously posted under and throughout this topic or thread. But, this is my FIRST pocket knife, in this particular pattern or style, that has TWO TANG STAMPS. I do NOT have any reason to believe that there is anything "wrong" about this pocket knife. This main blade does have a VERY GOOD half stop. This main blade does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. This main blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

under this topic or thread, back on Monday, July 5, 2021.
