Nice David. I have tried several times to get one of those black Case Barlow’s with the Saturn shield. Out bid each time. I like that Saturn shield and don’t have any knife with that shield on it. The Keen Kutter looks to be in pretty good shape. So many of those old KK Barlow’s have worn out blades

I put this on the "Venerable" thread last week but should have put it here too. A 2-15/16", JUDSON CUTLERY, N.Y./Germany ,"boys" Barlow. Very small, narrow, with a bolster that's 40+% of it's length. Has a delicate wire bale and smooth. very shiny bones. Iron liners and bolsters. Really like it. J.O'.

Ivoryman, I love that red coloration on that Barlow. It reminds me of raw meat, I guess that would make it blood red. I hadn’t heard of that cutlery company. Looks very well made.

Thanks Ridgegrass, SSK, appreciate it. They are pretty well made, very smooth, half stops on the secondary, not on the main. The company went out of business in 1948 so it would be sometime before that. Here's another Bingham with it.

Welcome to All About Pocket Knives. Nice looking Barlow. I am not fully knowledgeable on Sabre Knives, but I have seen this style Barlow by them before. Some were marked with a number "3" like yours, and I have seen some marked with a "603". So I am figuring that it may be the model number that was used at a specific time they were manufactured.

Thanks so much for the answer.
So no idea why it as only 3 as all of the others have 603.
I guess it is the model 3, and do not know how it is different than model 603?! ;-)

You've never seen one with just the "3"? I've seen several pop up on Ebay from time to time. Most of the ones that I've seen marked 603 had delrin handles. Like I said, I'm not fully knowledgeable on the differences of Sabre brand Barlows, but maybe the 603's were delrin handles and the Model '3' was for bone handles. I've never paid enough attention to them to verify that totally.

Thanks Papa bones for the information.

Yes, Ivoryman, it looks great. I am not a specific collector of Barlow and specially Sabre like you are! The blade would need to be cleaned I think. Do you have any recommendation for it. Should I do it or leave it as it is?

And thank you for the nice welcome on this site.

Well it would probably look great either way, but me personally, I have become fond of patina. I try to leave all I can when sharpening and stropping. I do clean gunk off, dirt, grime, corrosive stuff. But these days I leave patina on it and like the colors and splotchy look. Just my 2 cents.
