Makes me wonder how the plastic "bumpers" on newer trucks would withstand such treatment. Great story, and it's even better that the old jack is still in service!

You can still stick it in the receiver hitch. I bought a tall hi lift years ago, then needed a second on for a project. I didn’t mind spending the money on them. They are so well made.

Here you can see my bumpers. Jeep has c channel and angle iron. The truck I beams, even the side steps can support the truck. Bumpers are a number one priority when I get a new truck. Of course I haven’t had a new truck in 28 years!

I've never had a brand-new truck, and it will stay that way. No sense in paying over $25,000 for something I'm going to dislike.

And I must say, that is a heck of a bumper on that Dodge! I bet anyone thinking of "brake checking" you changes their mind in an instant.

Nobody brake checks me, nobody even cuts me off Its almost comical they start to pull out then stop.

I really don’t understand like they think their car wouldn’t get hurt if I didn’t have that bumper? I really built it for deer, and I’ve never hit one.

The Jeep was only 9 years old when I bought it, the truck I spec’d out and Dodge built it for me! It was quite an experience. Within 8 months it had the custom bumpers and side rails and ladder racks.

Sorry about the thread drift, back to old tools now.

The old tools I bought on Thursday cleaned up pretty good. Both the squares got an electrolysis bath. I ordered a set of cutters for the No. 66. The try square Stanley "V" logo dates it to 1912-1918. The sliding square is a "Sweetheart". The logo dates it to 1920-1922.

Both the squares had quite a bit of rust and some pitting, as you can see in the close-ups. I like to use the electrolysis bath on the rules with markings, so that I don't remove any more metal than necessary and degrade the markings. The electrolysis also gets down deep into the pitting and gets the rust out a little better than a wire wheel, I think.

I just used some soft wire wheels in the Dremel on the No. 66, being careful to remove dirt but not the nickel plating.

These will get a little more cleaning with some steel wool, and then a coat of wax.

I couldn't remember if I posted this or not - but I thought it would fit well on the Tool thread.

I worked carpentry with a guy like that.
I learned a lot in reverse positivity and ........ not to drive butt hinge screws with a framing hammer. Truly!

A couple of Estate Sale finds this week. I have always wanted a railroad track anvil. I knocked the rust off of this one. It's not very big, but I will use it.
I also picked up this Voos hunting knife. It has a broken plastic handle and was a little rusty, but I took it apart and cleaned it up on the wire wheel. I made a little tool out of an ignition wrench to get the brass nut off the end. I am going to try to put a real stag handle back on it. I love the steel they used in these Solingen knives.

Some great pickups Mike! That anvil will really come in handy for a lot of things! That fixed blade is awesome!

Aquired this antique craftsman bandsaw awhile back. Runs great but I’ve found I don’t really need it so I’m putting it on the market. Got 3 new pulley belts on it. It is definitely a Cool old Tool for sure if anyone is interested that live close to Winchester TN.

It seems like that would be perfect for cutting hafts of stag and bone for covers.

My father in law passed awhile back and I aquired his newer craftsman bandsaw that tilts to cut up to 45 degrees. I have a small shop also and needed the room.

You ought to restore that old Craftsman! Nice looking old saw.

That was my original intention Mike but some medical issues and dealing with my moms estate are tying me up to the point of no time for restoring it so I’ll sell to another to take over.

Great pick-ups, Mike and Jimbo! If it weren't for the distance, I'd be quite interested in that band saw.

I forgot this one so I’ll add I to because it is a cool old tool. Belonged to my dad. Looking to sell it also. I have a 2x 72 I use in the shop.
