Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.
This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.
The blade was so black from a tar of some kind I could not even read the tang till I removed the stuff. Needless to say I was surprised to see it was a Schrade

It is rock solid. Full blades. Hard snap on all three. It's been in the RFP since I got it. She's a keeper for sure.
THANKS AIMUS
Glad you like it Cutty. Who would think oil would make the blades look that dark? The feller I got that knife from about 25 or 30 years ago or longer didn't do anything to his knives in his collection. He just bought them and put them in a knife roll, never opened the knife roll to check on or do any up keep to his knives. He had a lot of knives that were ruined because of his neglect to them. Someone that knows Schrade tang stamps better than me can tell if the tang stamp on your 61OT Old Timer is one of the older ones that came after the Schrade Walden tang stamp. I think Schrade started putting NY. on the tang stamps later on and up until they closed.

Are they rare?
It's a pipe knife for those that aren't aware. Somewhat rare. Used to be more common pattern when more folks smoked pipes. Blade would have been covered in (likely) tobacco tar and soot/ash from scraping the pipe's bowl clean. Long "thingy" (reamer) is for cleaning the stem of the pipe (and piercing cigars) and the round end is for tamping your pipe.
Now-a-days it's the cannabis loving Schrade collector that gets to use these. Great size for small stone pipes. Don't ask me how I know
Cool knife; thanks to Dave I know what it is! Welcome Dave.

It's after '73 because it's stamped "Schrade" not "Schrade Walden" and according to Dale's list they were made until 1990. That's as narrow a range as I can come up with. Maybe someone else can do better.
jerryd6818, Old Hunter, thawk: Thanks for the welcome!
I've actually been lurking here for a few years now but always did my Schrade posting on Bladeforums. This is a great site too! At first I figured it redundant to post on both sites but I've come to realize that not everyone reads both so I'm gonna start posting here too. I hope folks like Hal won't shoot me if I post some stuff here that has been seen before.

Neat lil pipe knife Dimitri
Good luck trading him outuvit Dale.
My latest Schrade is an authentic reproduction of the original
4 bladed Boy Scout knife commissioned by BSA for their Diamond
Jubilee 75th Anniversary in 1985.
Original Scout knife produced by New York Knife Co. until 1931.
Diamond Jubilee edition bears the same New York Knife Co. USA
tang stamp.
I likee.

I know it's only 2nd grade, but I can't help myself.
It was looking for a new home because the owner didn't want
it anymore.
It's only a SCHRADE U.S.A. 34OT but someone's got take
these orphans in.
He's got his new home here in OZ.
Gary, you come up with some very nice old Schrades. Your newly acquired OT34 is in the condition I like to find them in; solid and all there, but something you can use immediately with no worries about messing it up from a collectors point of view.
Ps WJ, that 75th Anniver. BSA is sweet! Did you buy any of the 100th BSA ANNIVER. models?

Thank ye gents for the kind comments.
AB, you sure found a pair of beauties.
Now I know where the '83-86 Heritage 8041 comes from.
Gary, know how you feel about taking in the unwanted orphans.
Some of those are definitely among my favorites.
Their bumps and bruises add to their character.
So, you're an admitted 34 addict eh?
Seems I've accumulated more of those than anything else
w/o really trying. I'm not complaining, just noticed a trend.
Here's one you may not have found yet. Looks like a 34
variant to me. Double Eagle #4135 from the Frontier Div.
of Imperial. It's not my latest or a true 'Schrade' but
maybe the modulators will let me have a base on balls
just this once.
