Camillus WWII and before!

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Let`s see a picture of it

Yeah, this one was stamped Stainless Cut. Co., the tang stamps were ground off at the factory, I guess it was a factory second. It had a broken back spring that Kaleb just replaced for me :D Other than that I don`t think the knife was used.

Ok, I found it.

Yours is a different pattern, the one I have is 3" long closed with 2 back springs ::nod::

Here is a picture of your knife so others will not have to go look for it.

I wanted to show this old Streamline Camillus jack, not because it is perfect, though I think the master blade is unused, but because the tang stamps are some of the clearest I have seen.
Camillus Streamline jack e.jpg
As you can see, the secondary blade has major issues, like there was a rust eruption in the middle of the blade. There is also evidence of celluloid off-gassing on the knife.
However the sabre ground clip blade is nearly perfect! It may even still have the factory edge on it!

The Sword Brand tang stamp is so distinct & crisp you can even see the grooves in the padding on the handles.
I think that represents the wraps of wire used to compress and hold on the padded leather grip. I have seen that on other old swords, so I assume that is what it represents. Click on the pic to enlarge.
Camillus Streamline jack c.jpg

In this picture one can easily see the serif on the letters. All of both stamps are clearly visible on these tang stamps.
Camillus Streamline jack d.jpg
I thought y'all might enjoy seeing the stamps clearly and seeing the nearly pristine clip blade!

Do you have a Farmers jack?
I just went through the entire thread, very beautiful and informative. You guys have some exceptional knives Travman ,Carrmillus,Dale,Dimitri,Hal,Mike,Bob,TJ,Charlie,Steele,Jerry,Harold, garddogg,Greg,Tom,and all that have contributed to this thread.

I believe these are all Camillus made and have the flat pruner blade and the flat "rooster comb" budding blade with the "spud". They also have a thumb rest below the kick for using the spud on the budding blade while loosening the bark when grafting.

The bone on the A Field has me a little puzzled. Two well respected knife authorities agreed it was Camillus made and did not question the covers??The other two are a 4 line black composition Camillus and the Cutsure ,K&B Hdwe,Cincinnati O Camillus contract that Mike Losicco so graciously allowed me to purchase.

I am convinced two of them are not Camillus made knives.

The jigging on the black handles looks quite a bit like an Ulster I have.

Here is a Camillus that I own with similar black composition handles, It happens to be one of the very few older Camillus knives that I own that has a pattern number stamped on the tang, 2008:

You decide Lyle. I'm pretty much out of my depth here. That jigging just reminded me of an Ulster 63 I have.

Here's all four so you can compare. Your Rooster first, then the Camillus toothpick, followed by the Camillus stock knife and last, my Ulster and now that I see them all together, the Ulster doesn't match.

Edit: Looks like Mark's knife matches the top three shown below.

Here ya go CNoyes.

This one is a 4 line with hammered pins. You can see under certain light the remains of "Sword Brand "etch on the pruner blade.

Also the pictures of the comparisons with the "Cutsure" ..Let me add this Dimitri.I know where another Cutsure is (I haven't seen it yet..),and the owner says his was made by Challenge??

I would sure like to see a picture of a catalog cut of this "Sword Brand " rooster comb if anyone has one, especially the etch. This one has the "Sword Brand" etch ever so faint in the body of the pruner blade.

Jerry I believe that black composition is not a Camillus, but another manufacturer named Camillus. :)

I recently got this Camillus pen knife and compared it to a Keen Kutter that I also own. The Camillus appears to be identical (except for the shield and the handle material) however I find the shield interesting. If I was to see the Camillus closed I would immediately assume Winchester. The shield appears to be identical to a normal Winchester (or KK) shield but I don't recall seeing that shield on a Camillus. I'm sure that the Keen Kutter was made by Camillus for Keen Kutter (probably Shapleigh). I just thought it was an interesting comparison.

I added a picture of a Winchester showing a similar handle material and shield just for comparison.

It may just be my eyes, but.....

The KK and Cam. are very close ::nod::

But the Winchester, the shield 'corners' are more rounded and the bolsters
appear different to me. The left bolster looks to curve opposite of the KK/Cam and
the right (main blade) bolster looks straight.

The Winchester also has longer bolsters than the two other knives. ::nod::

Sorry for the confusing post. I was trying to show the similarity of the Winchester in handle material and shield style to the Camillus made knives. The two serpentine pen knives are both Camillus products made after Winchester went out of the knife business in my opinion. The Camillus marked knife was interesting to me mainly due to its shield which is a dead ringer for the shields on many Keen Kutter knives. The Winchester is an equal end jack knife made by Winchester. I haven't seen a Camillus with this shield before.
