camillus #72

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

Thanks Ripster! But I must apologize for the confusion. ::facepalm:: The last knife is the same one I posted before. Earlier pics were the sellers that last five I took after it came in the mail. Although I would certainly love to have a second one! Now back to the hunt for more short line 72s. Hmmm I think I need a black one... ::super_happy::
Great knife any case . Your pics are much better by the way ::tu:: .
There’s a few 72 black long lines here on the forum still for sale, think Steve P.has some ? Will look might have a extra short line somewhere that’s the black composite that looks like bone but isn’t . Is that the one you’re looking for? Or the black bone ,which isn’t easy to find in the 72 I don’t believe ::hmm:: Take care over there .
I have a long line one coming from Steve. ::tu:: But a short line in either black handle would awesome to have! ::nod::
I’m going to have to go back and look at some of my older posts to see what I used to have. I had a bunch of 72s. But had to sell them. I don’t remember if there were any black ones though.
Hey good to hear you have a long line coming from Steve . They’re just as he describes and several of us here have one from him . ::tu::
Will get down in the shop and look around ,do believe the two that have are in pretty decent shape and don’t have much in them . Will get down and send you a pic or 2 and go from there .

Here’s a couple pics . It’s a short line ,no shield , that came here with a little rust in the pins ,and the scratches on the main but all blades are tight and are snapping back the more it’s oiled and used . The covers are the dark black ,so dark can’t tell if bone or composite and the more that I look am not sure . Don’t want to scratch the black on the edge and ruin the finish . Have looked at it under magnifying glass and still not sure . All that said if interested let’s talk further thru pm and go from there . Maybe a trade for one of your pieces you’ve worked on if your interested ? ::nod::

It's synthetic black. The only black bone made were the three that were made in the early 90's.

These are the ones you are looking for.

1991 Sears Christmas Catalog. For some reason people sometimes seem to think these are the most valuable of the three.

Jerry, I believe there are 4 black bone handled knives from that 90's time. You recall I showed a black McGrew the other day and said it might be bone. I compared it to two of the other ones and it is identical. Even looked at them with a scope. The jigging on the bones ones is different from the Delrin ones. Pics below. ::shrug:: ::shrug::
From the pile side they are identical

Floyd, I was only talking about the 72. Did you see evidence of Haversian canals when you scoped the handles on the McGrew. It's not bone without them.

The edges are the best place to see that.

On those black bones almost impossible to see. But yes I found some evidence but hard to find on any of the black bone ones. I'm almost to the point of trying a hot needle. I'm about 98% sure it's bone.

That’s crazy money for that one ! Good for the Seller though . Just don’t get it ,some are willing to spend for them though . And it’s not just the old 72 s ,it’s anything pre 1960 s that’s going for good money . Maybe we should be selling ?

WOW! I’ve seriously considered selling some brands and patters that I was less attached to just because of this crazy market. My problem is, I have trouble not being attached to all them. ::facepalm:: It’s a sickness I tell ya.

These came in yesterday! A brand new 72 from Steve and a white handled Boy Scout. The scout has dirty pivot pins but should clean up well. And as we know the knife from Steve, Knifeaholic, came with the original cellophane wrapper. How cool! Well thats all I'm going to buy for awhile as I went over budget again this month! As Colonel26 said it's a sickness..... ::teary_eyes::
