We gathered around the radio and let our imaginations run wild. Fibber Magee & Molly, The Shadow, Yours Truely Johnny Dollar, Amos & Andy, Lum & Abner, The Bickersons, Sgt. Preston of the Yukon, Sky King, The Great Gildersleeve, Have Gun Will Travel, The Whistler and on and on. What was the name of the show about the insurance investigator? Was that Johnny Dollar?

Wasn't it Johnny Dollar Jerry and he used to toss silver-dollar tips to waiters and bellhops? I remember that show because the episodes were mostly based in Hartford Connecticut, the insurance capital of the world.

To all of you:
Thanks, I am sure I have listened many times to probably all listed with a few regional exceptions. Heck this was a four evening a week ritual. Took off Wednesdays for bible study, Saturdays for visiting guests or vise versa and Sundays for Church and dinner at different Members house, in those days dinner was the noon time meal with supper being late afternoon. Maybe once a month or sometimes longer we would drive 25 miles to town to shop and go the Movies. The serials before the films were great. The only one I remember was Buck Rogers.

......my favorite serial was "SHEENA, QUEEN OF THE JUNGLE"(Irish McCALLA was sheena), so now you know how old I am!!!........ ..............

The ships are on the Col. River side of Astoria. View is looking Northeast up the river. The Elk are on the Bay side of town on the way to shopping center. View is looking North west. I had to get a little ways East of them to get the entire herd in the photo. That is not a small dark cloud you see in the second. It was a huge raindrop that got on my lens.

Are the elk on a high fence farm or are they just in somebody's pasture? I can see a very tall fence in the background. Sure are a bunch of 'em!

W.B. those are two very interesting photos. Beautiful scenes both.

I'm planning a visit to your state in a few weeks (going to take in the knife show at Eugene) and hope to enjoy some of its scenic beauty.

Treefarmer:
The fence you see in the far background is to keep the Animals off of the Coast Guard and Public airstrip just beyond the Tree line. In a 20 mile arc going south and then around to the left and back to the Columbia there must be 5 to maybe 10 or more herds in the wild that are greater than 50-75 head.

Phil: Welcome to the land of the Liberal, great place to visit.. If all the stars fall into correct alignment I am going to attempt to come down and spend a day or so and do some visiting. Drop me a line and let me know where you make your reservations. Be neat to get several of the AAPKers to come out, we could hold an impromptu gathering. Mitch if you left LA around dawn you could be in Eugene about dark. Brian and everyone else ya'll come.

Phil, if you drive straight to the coast from Eugene, not far, you can see a nice old lighthouse and the Seal Cavern.

Moss I think Dale is already plotting an AAPK dinner gathering for Saturday evening. I will only be at the show on Saturday and then at the dinner afterward. I sure hope you can attend. It would be great to meet you after all these years.

My sentiments about seeing any members mimic yours.

After you see the Sea Lion Caves, Go north. An hour or so and you will reach Newport another great seaport to visit then on to Lincoln City, a giant discount mall and even a classy Casino if you wish. Heading out North again just before you reach Tillamook home of one of the Worlds foremost cheese makers is an Aircraft Museum housed in an old Blimp hanger of years past. After your fill of great cheese samples come on up to Seaside and visit the Museum and visit the southern part of Louis and Clark history. Resuming your trek will next find you at Warrenton and Fort Clatsop where L & C wintered over just after the turn of the 19th century, very nice displays. In Astoria proper you will find one of the best Maritime museums existing. Now sir, head out toward McMinnville, Or. another aircraft museum. There you will find on display along with a vast array of other Planes one of the old Douglas AD-5's of the type that flew in Korea and during the build up to Viet Nam. A four person 3350 radial engine craft that I was an Electronic Counter Measures Operator in. I have an affinity for these birds as they safely flew me on and off many times of virtually all of the Carriers on the West Coast and the far East. Hopefully you have the time available to take this trip, it would not do justice to all of the sites but fun could be had in 4-5 days. I neglected to mention that Fort Stevens about 5 miles South East of Astoria was probably the only place on the CONUS that the Japanese shelled during WW II. I tried to keep it short but the verbiage overwhelmed me once the flow started.
