Well to my shock the mailman delivered a package today from my friend Mr. Finamore, total surprise to me, 3 or 4 months back I PM Jeff and said if you get a Muskrat and put smooth green bone on it, just consider it sold….well today in the mail he gifted me these beauty…. Nowhere will you find a group of people that are as generous as the group that frequent this forum. A Schrade Walden 787 that he recommended me to carry, and that’s just what I am going to do with it. Thank you Jeff you have made my week.

Got this very cool "Mail Bomb" from deo-pa (Dennis) after I discovered he was a philatelist during an online exchange we had awhile back about a knife. Although I am not a stamp collector myself, in the course of our conversation I happened to mention a particular Hawaii-themed postage stamp that I had purchased a few sheets of about 20 years ago to use for personal correspondence (I know, I know...it's practically unfathomable in this digital age that there are still a few of us old-school types who actually use snail mail to send greeting cards & hand-written letters to friends & family instead of email or text messages ). After using up my supply of that particular stamp, I returned to the PO to purchase more; however, much to my dismay, I was informed that the stamp I sought had been discontinued :(. I was bummed because I had intended to keep one as a memento.

Well, it turns out Dennis actually had that very stamp in his collection but, as you can see, he did not merely send just the stamp, he sent me a highly collectible First Day Cover in a clear plastic protective sleeve to boot ::woot::. Wow, I am floored...what a fantastic surprise and gift. ::groove::

My wife is afraid that Dennis may have acted recklessly and activated a latent philatelic gene in my DNA...and, as usual, she's probably right ::nod::

All I can say is "MAHALO" Dennis (and also, you'd better watch your back because if my newly awakened philatelic tendency goes the same way as my knife collecting, mark my words & make no mistake: my wife WILL hunt you down! ::mdm::)

I'm now very curious as to whether another Monkey will attach itself to Q's back. :D A great piece of Hawaii history, and a very skillful bomb run by Dennis! ::tu::

We all know just how much that gesture from Dennis means to you, ~Q~, congratulations!
That's a "bomb" that had plenty of thought put into it, good on you Dennis!
You better keep the monkey in check though, or the next thing you know you'll be collecting spoons!

It's no longer just comic books, stamps, coins and baseball cards; the incredible variety of things collectors are drawn to is truly staggering. In his youth my own father collected marbles, one of my sisters collects yarn (yes, yarn--she has an entire room in her home filled with skeins of different colors of yarn), my mother-in-law collected spoons (which, fortunately my wife did not inherit, nor the spoon collecting gene in her DNA!), I have one friend who collects vintage concert T-shirts (which can be unbelievably expensive and more frequently counterfeited than vintage knives) and another friend who collects ceramic wall sconces and ashtrays. A nurse who tended me while I was in the hospital collected baby slings (which I didn't even know was a thing), and I've known people who collect Pez dispensers, Beanie Babies and, strangest of all IMO, cereal boxes. The list of things people collect is as fascinating as it is endless.

I got bombed!
Dan in MI was nice enough to send me these two knives to tinker with. You know, I do love to work on knives!
A Camillus 21 peanut with a blade wobble.
Also, a Camco advertising knife. I used to have a similar Colonial advertising knife with a screwdriver blade, and I loved carrying it. I may sharpen this one and put it in my pocket. (I may also put new handles on it first - you just never know!). These are very slim and easy to carry.

Thank you for your generosity, Dan!

Starvation Plantation was bombed by Mumbleypeg from Celina, Texas! Good shot from about 675 miles as the crow flies.
Ken found a lobster type knife that had my username, Treefarmer, on it. It is a pretty well-made advertising knife from Japan, as the picture shows has 4 blades, a nail file and a regular blade on one side and scissors and an ear spoon on the other side. (I recently received another knife with an ear spoon, it was made in Czechoslovakia. Read about ear spoons/snuff spoons and now I have two.)
Learned the name Can Car Garrett Tree Farmer referenced a small skidder made in Canada. Pictures on the web show them to be smaller than the timber equipment that is in use nowadays. I'm sure there are most likely some of these old woods tractors still being used.
