Newest Case Pick-Ups

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Wow Tim, that is a cool looking Case! I really like the shield....the handle shape and jigging is quite a bit different than what I normally associate with Case too...and is that a saber grind on the blade? What year is that one from?

Case Stag Canoe

Post by just bob »

Here is a recent find. Got it on ebay and on the bottom end the knife had a nail through it and a blade with the pull on the wrong side that had been fitted crudely to the knife. The picture was so bad didn't know for sure what I was getting. When it came in I saw it was stamped Case / Bradford. PA and this stamp was used prior to 1932. Also the back of the big blade is stamped 52131. It took some time but I found an older Case canoe and took the small blade and the spacer from it and plugged into this knife. They fit like a glove and both blades have hard snap now. I also cleaned up the bolsters. On the bottom end, where the nail was that bolster is very thin. I was on a recent trip to KY and TN and took this knife with me. I showed it to a couple of knife people and they tell me the older stag canoes are very uncommon and were glad to see one. One person told me the small blade on the bottom end should have a blade with Case Tested in a circle another person told me this was in the pre tested era and the blade that was in it was fine. In any event a decent knife that may not be too common.

Wow nice! I've never seen a Stag Canoe that old. At first glance I thought it would have a Tested stamped blade....awesome knife either way!

I apologize for starting a separate thread for this knife. I intended to post it under new Case knife finds and must have hit the wrong button. It would be great if one of the mods could move this post over there. Thanks

I have a Case Tested stamped stag canoe, which is a pretty rare knife. That's the first Bradford stamped 52131 canoe that I have ever seen.
