Based on reading gun writers, the Remington Rolling Block was considered-with reason of course- to have a much stronger action than the more well known Sharps. Probably the ultimate Buffalo rifle.

I've read that too. Specifically that Remington's action was stronger than the falling block actions. I have no idea as to whether it's so or not.

Just bought some new carry ammo for the 1911's. It's pretty impressive stuff. 45acp +p 220 grain interlocked hollow point polymer filled bullet. At 100 yards it has more velocity and energy than Winchester White Box 230 grain ball. At the muzzle it has less than 100 ft-lbs energy than the 357 158 grain loads I shoot. It really wakes up the old slab sides. Violent expansion and deep penetration.

I pray I never need it, but just in case. Here's the ballistics if you're interested. It isn't Jerry's 10mm, but I think it'll work.

I've used the Hornady Critical Defense version in my H&K VP9 and it works extremely well. I really like it.

When I was in South Africa on two separate trips, I was allowed to carry a handgun anywhere, except casinos and maybe a few other places. I happen to have my favorite handgun with me there, my S&W Model 629, with 8-3/8" barrel, Performance Center tuned. We would come in from the bush and go to supermarkets to get things and I would be in full camo and my 629 on full display in my shoulder holster. Nobody said a word or gave me any trouble.

I was using it out in the bush, in case I had a chance at a sub 100yd shot on game. It was loaded with Corbon 240gr JHP Hunter ammo.... it chronographs well over 1500 fps out of my long barreled 629, which is over 1200 ft-lbs at the muzzle. The funny thing is, I changed the grips to these beautiful walnut Eagle Grips with a palm swell and this thing is really comfortable to shoot for how powerful it is. At the indoor range, which is pretty dimly lit, it has this ferocious 2' diameter fireball when it goes off. I've had people in the range stalls next to me just about wet themselves when I decide to pull it out and shoot it. I'll hear them say things after the concussion... then, when I stop to reload, they'll come over and ask what the heck that cannon is. Just a 44 Mag. There is definitely a Dirty Harry vibe to it when you carry it. Oh, by the way... it is incredibly accurate.

I've been carrying the Hornady Critical Defense in my Kimber Ultra Carry and old school 230 grain ball in the Ruger commander. Critical Defense is 180 grains and optimized for short barreled guns. It's a fast little pill and pretty explosive on water jugs. But the bullet isn't as tough, less penetration too. That and it did hang up once in my Ruger so I really didn't trust it. The Ruger like the big heavy billets that JMB intended for it to fire. Never any problems with the appropriate ammo in that gun.

The duty I like a lot better. Tougher bullet, optimized for penetration and expansion, 220 grain, and it feeds like old school 230 grain ball.

I switched to HydraShoks; problem solved.

So, when I bought the SR40 recently, more hydrashoks were purchased.

I bought some of those Hornady CD for my Ruger LC9s.... they absolutely would not feed in it. The polymer tip hit the feed ramp and wouldn't slide.
I switched to HydraShoks; problem solved.

So, when I bought the SR40 recently, more hydrashoks were purchased.

I have Federal HST for my wife's Glock just because that's what the store had in 9mm when I went shopping (and their reputation). They are definitely a bad little round.

Just curious, not arguing at all, how long ago was it that you tried the CD? I had read that the Duty loads had some of those issues early on but it'd been fixed. Personally I'm not sure about it, just what I've read. I did have one Defense round hang up in my commander , but never in the officer. That could have been the problem. But the Duty loads work fine so far. I'll report back if I have any other issues.

I love ballistics! Pretty sure that will work Wade! I am eyeballing a Coonan .357 slide gun at the LGS. I believe the only other manufacturer that makes a .357 semi auto is Magnum Research Desert Eagle. That suckers weighs 4 pound 8 ounces.

Personally I'm not sure about it, just what I've read. I did have one Defense round hang up in my commander , but never in the officer. That could have been the problem. A good smack on the rear of the slide wouldn't make the polymer tip slide up.
I believe the steep angle of the feed ramp was the main issue .. ..

Since the Ruger is the only 9mm I own, I have no other test platform for the Hornady ammo....

My S&W 629 was bought to be a hunting tool. So, it has been out on the field and carried for many days and miles.

My other "work" 44 Mag, is a Ruger Super Blackhawk, 7-1/2" barrel.

Dave, that Python is sooooooooo sweet. While very much appreciating fine semi-autos, I just think so many revolvers have a charisma, or maybe individuality is a better word, that-for me-is seldom matched by autos. That Python will always be timeless.

Thanks Chris. I've never shot an LC9, but I hear good things about them. I'll fire a few more out of mine and make sure no problems arise. I appreciate the heads up about your experience. I'm real new to handguns myself, still learning.

Personally, only used the CDs on my revolvers so I have no experience to provide any input besides I heard of some of the issues previously. Thanks for the info. Good to know.
I suggest RIP ammo for cold weather duty. Like I said, I usually carry 3 mags with different ammo for different needs. Just how I do it.

Sweet Python Dave! Shoot that puppy as much as possible in my opinion.

My 2 snake guns have been posted previously but I put some new grips on them. Actually the Diamondback are original but my Dad went to Pachmayrs and I like the original look. The Python did not have original grips (Pachmayr's also) so I bought some off the LGS owner. I believe this Python only came with wood grips but they are original Colt grips. Would love a pair of wood originals but they sell for like 300 bucks.

The Diamondback is circa 1968' according to serial number. Cost in 1980', $295. The balance is incredible on this gun. I carry often as an EDC.

The prices are completely outrageous now. Look at GunBroker. But as I have heard some say, considered the Rolls Royce of revolvers. Opinions may vary. All is I know Dad and I spent lot of time and memories shooting these. Priceless (literally) to me.

Those are priceless! I have to agree, a well tuned Colt DA, truly is the RR of the revolver world.

On the Colt SA side, I'm a sucker for the history on these... I have 4 of them. 1 blued, 3 Nickel. 3 in stag, 1 in ivory. 3 in 45LC, 1 in 44-40. Love the color case hardening on the blued one.

I even had a custom El Paso Saddlery gun belt and holsters made.
