Maybe someone on this thread can give me some information. I just purchased a large cigar jack (41/4") model 9911 made by Hibbard Spencer & Bartlett. I haven't had any experience with this brand and was wondering if there is a way to date this knife. I'm waiting for it to arrive and will post some pics as soon as it gets here. Any info will be appreciated.

HSB did not make there own knives.They were made by several companies including New York Knife Co,Camillus and others.A photo may narrow it down some.

And just for the record it's Hibbard Spencer Bartlett & Company not Hibbard Spencer & Bartlett.

Here are a couple of pics from the vendor listing. Any info about maker, date, etc. would be appreciated.

Not an expert by any means, but my guess is Camillus 30's -40s ... I'm sure some others will weigh in on it

Nice find ::tu::

Randy
Thanks Randy. I picked it up because, due to my fondness for the old Camillus 23, I've started a large cigar jack section in my collection. I saw this one and it fits the bill so I bid on it and won. Now I'm trying to get as much info on it as I can.

Thanks Roger. ::super_happy::

So when I get it it should match up pretty close with my Camillus 23s? The number 9911 is stamped on the pile side.

Any way to determine the age other than pre 1960?

Sure looks like an old 23.
I've got a short line and a long line and have had them recovered. One of my favorite carries.

I hope your knife is a good one, Charlie. ::tu::

Well, here it is. It arrived late yesterday. If it is as old as I believe it is it's in very good shape.

Thanks dogleg and FRJ. I was looking for a Buck 110, for a Christmas present when I stumbled on it. It is 3 3/4 inches long.

Thanks to Roger a Hibbard Spencer & Bartlett, 3 1/2 jack with a unique Goshen Lightning Rod Co etch, company originally formed in 1909, out of business in 1975. Most likely an early knife with the pick bone.
