Phil, the Blade when open it is setting at an odd angle. Also it appears to set well above the backspring when open.Got to go the preacher is getting ready to stoke the coals.

These are the clearest and closest shots of the main blade spring joint. It has an angle to it where all the other joints are flat. I was up late last night looking at any example of these I could find, but they were all the valley forge versions. I never could find an actual Case Bradford Pa stamped version. I found different blade styles and combinations, but again it was all VF versions.

The latest pics don't look good from an authenticity and "original" standpoint. Tang thickness should be same as backspring among other things in relation to the pictured joint. Angle, overall fit, spring raised when fully open, etc all indicate that knife has been apart to me and blade or spring not original or altered. No expert but observed and own quite a few old CASE. Not convinced that is worn CASE bone or worn shield either.
Not trying to be dark cloud, just my opinion.

A good case to learn to read the knife and not what the stamp says.Blade has been changed and a poor job of it.Another thing that stands out is the master blade is very full compared to the wear of the rest of the knife.

No worries guys. I'm actually happy to be better educated. Maybe it stings less because I ended up getting it in an insane deal where I came out way ahead on the rest of the batch. Maybe it will save me (and possibly someone else) some future heartache on another deal. I do still enjoy the knife very much, so it still feels like a win to me.
Thanks for the information. I didn't come across much doing my own research on the web that was definitive, and I don't own any knife books to reference, so it's nice to have people in the know to turn to.

Hey Dradian, sweet looking bone and knife, sorry like you can't imagine that it might not be authentic. Another con artist scum of the earth out there after us to prey on our trust and steal our dollars makes me sick so my condolences big time, my number must be coming up sometime since I buy old Case stuff too. Welcome to the club. Couple of old 62087 Serpentines from sometime between WW2 and Vietnam.

Thanks. I'd have loved for it to have been real, but it's not too bad. I bought it in a batch, and came out good on the others. A cheap lesson in my eyes.

Those are some good looking knives you have there.

I think the OP or following stated both blades were stamped the same.

Can we see pics of the smaller blade, please?

It's my understanding that Case did offer this pattern, although I seem to recall some controversy over that some years ago.

If Case did make or market such knives and the pattern number on the other posted above indicates that is so, then just because the master on the OP knife has been replaced (and I agree that it has), doesn't necessarily mean the knife is not a Case product.

I should have learned my lesson re' joining in on a Case knife discussion years ago, but apparently I have not.

I'm new here, what lesson didn't you learn about joining in on a knife discussion Charlie? Did I miss something? Thought that was why we were all here, no? Hope you feel free to add something to the discussion any time you want.

I made statements based on ignorance of the brand, its patterns and Case's history.

My errors were pointed out rather pointedly, which was embarrassing, so I decided to stick to my own area of expertise.

I will snap some close up shots of the small blade and get them on here. I do want to say though, that I've dug around on this site on occasion for months now, and the reason I decided to join was the way that people carry themselves on here. It's the only forum that I have ever visited where people treated others as if they were still people, and not like they do on other sites where they act like there are no consequences due to the anonymity of the internet. I appreciate that about this site, and the people on it. We all stick our foot in our mouth on occasion, but it shouldn't keep us from sharing the information that we do know. I for one don't mind being redirected towards what is true as long as it's done respectfully.

These are close up on both sides of the small blade. The back doesn't seem to have any type of model stamping or mark.

Dradian,
You've stated a lot of folks' feelings concerning AAPK. I joined and lurked for a year or before getting my feet wet ::nod:: . It is by far the most friendly knife forum I've read. Once in a while a controversy starts and then someone might show their true colors but usually folks already know who they are and how they stand. The site is well run and it allows us to ask and learn without feeling we are not part of the group.

Everybody is ignorant, just in different ways. Some of us have more of those ways than others.

Thanks timgreene, it's a really sweet knife all around, and beautiful, but really bigger, wider and heavier than I thought it would be. Not the most pocket friendly, but great knife shelf material.

Been carrying Beer Scouts, Whittlers, Viper, Barlows, and bigger stuff lately. Picked this '40-64 Serpentine Jack yesterday and was amazed how light and unnoticed in the pocket compared to all those. Two blades too. Lighter than a lot of my single blade folders. Love these oldies.

In regards to Dradian's Case pliers knife:
Maybe a dumb question, but, any chance the blade is original and a broken backspring has been poorly replaced? The angled (not square) end of the backspring, where it meets the main blade, does not look to me like something Case would have let go?
