Thank you Quick Steel!

Dan In MI wrote: Sun May 01, 2022 3:17 am I agree. That is a very good-looking Robeson!

Upon further inspection, I found the the blades on my new Craftsman were gritty (especially the master blade). I'll have to give it some oil to flush out whatever is built up in there. Failing that, it might need the mineral oil spa treatment that Smitty often mentions.
Thanks Dan. Yep, the warm mineral oil soak does a knife good. Soak it for a while, and work the blades back and forth several times. The flush with WD-40. You will be surprised what it works out sometime.

Very nice knives, guys. Exceptional finds. ::tu::

Garry...that Canoe is awesome. Glad you were able to grab that one. When I saw that Jamie said he had one in his store, I went straight there to possibly grab it. I too was enamored with that Black Sycamore scale. You beat me to it. ::tu::

So, I went searching for the black sycamore knife and came across this Trapper. There was a Canoe available too, but the trapper won out. Anyway...not trying to 'compete' with you on your sycamore Canoe, but I REALLY like these sycamore scales. The main reason I bought this trapper. Here's a few photos I took. Thanks for looking.

The bolsters and blades needed a little cleaning, and amazingly the MOP handles doesn't have any breaks or cracks, around the pins. A Robson 722110 2-5/8" Pearl Swell Center Pen Knife. The tang stamps on both blades is the upward Arched ROBESON with CO in the middle with Cutlery straight across the bottom. According to Goins' and other info I have, this tang stamp was used until 1922. I never really could catch the true iridescence with my camera, but these are some really nice handles. The blades, for a tiny knife, has a very audible snap on both.

Thanks Mark for the comment. ::handshake::

When I first unwrapped it and looked at the reverse side, I thought it had a scratch and was immediately disappointed. But then, because of my experience working with wood, I realized that it was not a scratch, but the grain of the wood in that particular area. I think it gives it 'character' apart from the other 'swirly' shapes. I had never seen sycamore wood before Jamie posted about it. It caught my eye and I knew I wanted a knife with those type scales.

I went back and enlarged the picture Ken and saw what you thought was a scratch, and I did also until I looked really closely and realized it's just the grain of the wood. I totally agree that all that mark does is add character to the knife. Since you wanted a knife with Sycamore covers you've made an excellent choice! 8)
