Nice covers on your knife Garry!Quick Steel wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 9:30 pm This is a rare Schrade, N.Y. U.S.A. # 233 with shiny black bone handles. It was made 1973-1975, part of a very small run. There is something about the 3 1/4" Jack Knife that is undeniably captivating once you see it in hand. It came as a bonus with some other knives I recently bought from Roland. It was easy to identify the covers as bone once I applied the "tooth tap" test. It provided a lively resonant sound. Delrin always sounds flat and dull. The F&F and W&T are what you would expect of an exceptional knife.
If any of you have additional knowledge about this knife, I would be grateful for your input.

Marco,
I usually like bone. The white bone on this knife is almost translucent. I would just like to see it in a whiter bone. If that makes any sense.

Hey I get it Nev. That's why I said the covers look like cracked ice, due to the translucency I assume. I know on the seller's website they appear to look much more like bone so there's another shout-out for brick n' mortar stores where we can see and handle a knife prior to purchasing! Your new knife is still very attractive and how it looks certainly won't affect it's performance! Congrats buddy!

I know exactly what you mean about whiter bone. This is really nice white bone. Not translucent, but has depth of colour.Nev52 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 11:58 pmMarco,

One of the nicest Schrade knives I have ever seen! It is truely a very desirable addition.
As a friend of mine from the AAPK might put it, that one is "Quietly Spectacular".
Now if I only knew what W&T is or how the "tooth tap test" works I'd be a little bit smarter today than I was yesterday.
Very generous bonus Roland!

First case knife I own with the actual date stamped on the tang. Read they put the date on 1990 to mid 1993. Pretty cool and I'm a happy guy. And good on your coworker.![]()
You could try to find out secretly if he has any hobbies he loves and then get him something "special" from that hobby.
Just a though.

Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
Tom, W&T refers to walk and talk: The snappy sounds of a good blade opening and closing .
You can experiment with this on your own. You simply tap the covers of the knife handle on one of your teeth; a canine tooth is best. There is a distinct difference to the sound you will hear between delrin and bone. As I mentioned earlier the delrin sound will be flat and dull. Bone will have a certain resonance, a livelier sound. You will easily identify the difference.
We normally have 4 canine teeth, two upper and two lower. They are pointed so they make for easy tapping.

The first of two commemoratives, both by Schrade. This limited edition scrimshaw celebrates the English Pointer breed on a 5" Lockback frame. Covers are white Delrin with nickel silver bolsters. The large clip point blade came well-sharpened.
This is followed by a special edition for MATCO Tools. Note the fancy tooling of the leather sheath.

Marco, I was puzzled as to why your Navaja was called that. I had always associated the Navaja with a downward curved handle. But I learned that now the term Navaja is applied to any (Spanish) slip joint.

Yep, that was my thinking too Garry but then I saw others that looked similar so I figured they couldn't all be wrong by calling their knives Navaja's. I wasn't aware that the name is readily accepted in referring to slip-joints so thanks for that info.Quick Steel wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 3:51 am Marco, I was puzzled as to why your Navaja was called that. Marco, so it is like the Xerox effect, i.e. regardless of brand every copier is called Xerox as in "Make me a Xerox copy." Navajas, which I have discovered originated in Andalusia, became so wide spread and popularly associated with Spain that almost any knife is commonly referred to as a navaja.

I'm a member of Klein's Tradesman Club, and as a part of it, you get a free sticker every month. I've decided to largely standardize on Klein. I have both a small and a medium business locally (an Ace affiliate as well as a regional electrical supply) that sell them, and they take a beating. My Knipex tend to get chewed up; even the small ones; and I don't have strong grip. I have one pair of their linesman's pliers that was accidentally ruined(wrecked cutters) on a fencing job; while these Kleins were primarily fencing pliers from the day Granddad bought them. They have no damage in the cutters whatsoever and will cut a heavy gauge extension cord clean 30+ years later.
I think you have to request each month's sticker manually through a page on your account, but I'm not sure. I signed up in mid-January, and this is January's sticker. Signed up for February's today--but I bet it won't show up until March.
Not sure where I'm going to put it. It is printed on vinyl, and it's weatherproof; but most likely, it's going in a photo album with my mining hardhat stickers.

Klein has them both as the giveaway, but it is also sold online for $2 each on the merchandise page.

Product description on the merchandise page seems to suggest that they were also given away on Facebook.
