I just picked up this A.W. Wadsworth & Son (Can't see the whole stamp yet) mini "Scout" pen knife. Supposedly with Stag handles. Bought it for €11.50 or $13.50 shipped. I like small knives & I Love Stag, Bone & MOP handles so I can't hardly wait to get my hands on it! Hopefully, it'll have some snap left & no wobble. It does have some pitting as seen on the pictures, but I can live with that if that's all it has. It looks like a cool little gem & I'm pretty excited about it!

The seller wrote that his grandfather made this knife himself years ago in Solingen. I'll have to ask him if he knows when that was.

Does this one qualify for the "Scout" knives thread?

Everything about that knife is just gorgeous. The shield, the etch, the bone all come together to make something pretty good looking.

And, unlike a lot of the commemeratives they have done as of late, it is not a China-made Boker Plus knife. That seems to be most of the coal miner knives they make. Sucks "The Miner" hawkbill is now made in China, instead of Germany; when originally, it was a USA-made item when Boker first started making them in the late '70s early '80s.

Figured I'd save a bit by ordering a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 from KnivesShipFree instead of the local knife store. I saved about $8-9 between sales tax and shipping. By my budget, $66.50 is quite a bit already. I buy a knife this cost about once a year. The Ladybug is just a bit too small, and has no clip. At 84mm closed, it's just big enough. Several of my SAKs are that same size. I chose the Zome handle due to its patterning. Almost went with the Emerson Wave model, but I think that's not suited to a knife this small.

OH...that's a fine looking Commemorative NG knife. The National Guardsmen/women don't get enough credit for what they do for America. Glad you picked that one up.


Cody...I'm not much of a SpyderCo fan, but I must say, that is a sweet looking knife. I like the scales on that...and I really like the style of the pocket clip.

Thanks Cody. I think this one is New, Old Stock from the mid to late 1990’s. Matt must have secured a collection of these Solingen Boker’s sometime recently. OH

Carl Rader ?
I have never heard of these knives before and i do not have my books on German knives with me.
Are these true vintage knives or is someone assembling old Carl Rader parts, or are they new knives being branded with the name of a Solingen manufacturer of long ago ?
Searching "Carl Rader" does not bring up any info, just a few knife listings.
Ebay has 4 listings for "Carl Rader" but only 2 knives, both listed twice and all from the same seller in Bulgaria.
Seems suspicious to me.

They use a lot of different steels, and are now having Crucible make a steel exclusive to Spyderco, SPY-27. This particular Dragonfly is the more or less base Spyderco steel, VG-10.

I've got a couple things on the way. First.....and I am totally stoked on getting it. A Case XX tang stamp 6229 1/2 "Tadpole". I purchased it from Steve Pfeiffer aka: Knifeaholic, so when he says it has strong snap with no wobble, there is no questions this will be a great addition to my collection. I am on pins and needles until it makes it to my house.

I also have a 72 clone coming. A Rigid Knives 3 blade whittler. Like New with box.

This one is floating down a lazy river (the USPS) towards me. I gave the one I had to my Cousin's husband and decided I really needed one in my small sub-3" collection. Unfortunately, I was not paying attention and just discovered it is not US made. The one I gave Mike was US made. Oh well, live and learn. The sub-3" collection is not all that important to me.
