what is the rarest case knife you have??

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

That sure is a beauty Earl!

Can you please post a picture of the back of a knife? Would love to see it.

Thanks, Jerry

Bill,
That XX trapper on the tested frame is a beauty and rare for sure. ::tu:: ::tu::

Here is a picture of its brother in Rogers Bone although not in as good of condition as yours.

I have posted pictures of case xx that I thought/was told that it was a 5171L,
I have received comments from this posting calling it a 5172L.
Not being a real collector or case guy, I confused!
What case knife have I shown in posting, please help.

Great knives Gents! Trappers are not my passion personally but those are really nice ones.

As Bill said, it is a 71 frame Earl. The 72 is a big clasp knife.

Nice knives. As Tom said, fairly rare. I have pristine extra 1 and the other 3 variations in that era that are not shabby either. Not many are aware there are 4 model stamp or lack thereof variations in USA era.

It looks like it might be, but really hard to tell. Does the picture of the tang stamp show everything or are there other clues. Is the secondary blade marked at all?

Thanks, Tom.
There is nothing stamped on the pile side of main blade. Nothing stamped on either side of secondary.
Mark side of main shows some stamping above "& son". Nothing below that.

I couldn't say with any degree of certainty that it is a WRCase & Son knife but it looks like a high quality knife.
