It was nice to witness that and photograph it.

When I was a kid, the shells were everywhere but I don't recall ever seeing one of the live critters. Thanks Joe, that's pretty nifty.

My neighbor showed me a couple of bottles that were dug WAY up in Maine about 40 years ago. I took some pics of 'em to post on a bottle forum and thought I'd share 'em here.
James Stewart and Co Saucel, Paisley. Suacel was the distillery and Paisley was the town in Scotland from whence it came. I figure 1880's-1900. Complete with glass stopper and the cork around it.




This is the bottle we're trying to identify. Still has part of the label and the cork is still in the neck. Nothing but air in the bottle though..

The bottom bottle is known as a case gin. Do you have a picture of the bottom of it?
The James Stewart was made between 1870& 1902.

WOW!!! Somebody has a GREAT collection of blob tops and flasks...
The case gin bottom is sorta hard to decipher but it looks like an open pontil. Just a wild guess but I'd say 1850-1860.(?)

Here's a little half pint punkin' seed flask I really like. Says, "B.A.Cook/ Sweet revenge/ Galveston, Texas". It's probably c.1880.Ya gotta wonder what "Sweet Revenge" was, huh?
I don't know a whole lot about old bottles, but I joined a bottle club on the www one time, to learn something about them.I posted a picture, just as an introduction, of 3 Indian Territory(Okla.) blob tops and the little flask. I knew the old Okie bottles were good but I wasn't sure about the flask. One of the members emailed me later and said,"I guess you know that little flask is worth several hundred dollars"? I had NO idea. I gave a quarter for it at a local yard sale. I still have it but sold the 3 I.T.'s when I was putting 3 youngsters through college. Got $1150.00 for them. Not bad for 3 old bottles I dug up.

Here's what I got.....Coke bottle and a Beer bottle. .....I found out that they're real..but I don't know what they're worth.

BTW....that SWEET REVENGE sounds like it would have been some potent stuff.

I got a Fly Press last night. Now I just need to get some tooling for it.

Now that you have one and we know (thanks to T.J.s video) the adjustment doo-hickey is there, the alignment plates are there, it's a bloody monster and one of the ball weights is missing; what the hey are you going to do with it?

That is a Monster.....that was made for use with some pretty big stock. ....nice piece Iron hoarder.

This is a family piece, it was made by my Grandfather while he was stationed in Okinawa.
Every piece of the plane is part of a bullet or from some kind of gun shell. If I recall the
piece of glass was from a damaged vehicle or plane. Have you guys ever seen anything
like it? I think he told us that others made similar items while overseas during WWII. The
plane and stand are two seperate pieces. Not many peolple have ever seen it, what do
you guys think?

I'm hoping that I can find some of the old punch dies for pocket knife blades.

The worst thing is the guy had one about three times the size of this one that is probably going to get scrapped since no one bought it and he has to clear out his business by Sunday.

Things like that are commonly referred to as Trench Art or Theater Art. That has to be one of the best examples I've ever seen though. Great heirloom!

That's a really cool piece, a P-38 I think. This type of work was/is referred to as "Trench Art". GI's would also make ash trays, planters, umbrella stands, etc. from spent artillery shells. Great piece of family history.

Thanks IH and TJ - 'Trench art', thats pretty cool. I remember him also saying
"It takes a lot of little jerks to equal one good Yank!!" Not really PC today, but good stuff.

Yep...thats a P-38 Lightning. .....IM..that is awesome..one of the coolest pieces that I've seen in a long time.
