I wouldn't exactly call this big fella "a pet", he just showed up in my office the other day and seems to have moved right in and made himself at home. I don't know what type of lizard it is (still waiting to hear back from my brother the "reptile whisperer" on the identification), but he's much bigger than the legions of colorful little "Geicko" Day Geckos that normally infest our residence. This guy is approximately 8"-10" from tail tip to nose tip.

He's certainly not camera-shy (apparently every creature on the planet wants to be an Internet sensation or a Tik Tok star these days!).

So far, my cat has not been able to catch him, although not for lack of effort, such as scaling the screen door to swipe him off the ceiling where he was napping...unsuccessfully, this time ::suspense::.

Q that lizard isn't off gassing is it? A little discoloration on its back. My money is on the cat.

Well Floyd, I agree; I think you're betting on the right horse...er...cat.

Here's what my brother the reptile whisperer had to say:

What you have there is some species of Anole, or Anolis (if you prefer Latin). Anoles are not endemic to Hawaii so this is either an escaped or released import/pet. That discoloration is probably scars from an escaped encounter with a bird or cat, or dog. He doesn't appear to be too skittish so you're probably not the first human he has seen. My 1st guess would be a large Green Anole (actually, this would be a very large Green Anole). Green Anoles are never aggressive and they are usually pretty skittish, in the wild anyway. Being that this guy isn't skittish would again suggest he is an escaped/released pet. My 2nd guess would be a young Knight Anole. Knight Anoles are generally not friendly, but they're generally not aggressive towards homo sapiens either. Knight Anoles are usually quick to bite, so exercise caution if your fingers get too close! Always remember - when it comes to reptiles, your results may vary.

We have green anoles here in Texas. As far as I know they are natives. ::shrug:: We used to have several in the flower and shrub beds around the house but I think the Guinea fowl and cats have cleared them out. Still see toads and frogs around the house though. I think they secrete something when threatened that animal don’t like.

Still see the anoles, along with other small lizards and skinks (and snakes) along the creek bottoms. There are plenty of predators there too.

Wow I would worry how my wife would react to a big lizard like that. Not good I'm sure. She would more than likely leave till I caught it . Good luck QT.

We are getting an addition to our pack the week of Easter. He will be old enough to leave the litter then. I’ve named him Moki.
Feel a bit guilty not getting another rescue dog. We have rescued 6 dogs in the past 15 years. I have wanted a Golden Retriever puppy for a long time and we decided that since we are in our 60’s now would be the time, could be the last dog we welcome to our pack. It’s going to be interesting potty training another dog and having to put up shoes and anything he can chew on. Hope our dogs welcome him and take him under their wings. I’ve heard that dogs love puppies so I hope that is the case here. Our Girl Scout who is another Golden Retriever can be very toy aggressive at times, so we have to really watch them for the first month or so. Hope it goes well. Looking forward to the new energy and life a puppy brings.

Mark, warmest congratulations on Moki. Having adopted so many rescue dogs in the past you fully deserve to make an exception. And, as you know, you have chosen a wonderful breed.

Thank you Garry and Boji. I have wished I could have had our Kobi when he was a puppy, we got him when he was 5 years old so we missed all that wonderful good stuff. Same with Girl Scout she was 4 when we took her in. Both were in need of new homes and we made room for them. I love Golden Retrievers. We have been so fortunate to have 6 great dogs. Our pack is healing for us.

Mike, congratulations! What a beautiful addition you have in Ruger. He is a member of my favorite breed and I am not exaggerating when I say that he is one of the most beautiful I have seen. May you have many years with him. (It will help to stay away from store bought dog foods loaded with grains.)

Mike Ruger is beautiful, congrats on him.

Here is my new addition. Moki traveling home from the breeder. Settled in and then meeting the rest of the pack. He keeps looking for nipples on our Girl Scout, but he isn’t finding them. She looks like his mama but she isn’t, and she let’s him know it.
