There's some real collectors items in that bunch CharlieRobesonsRme.com wrote:
I think I'll post some of them here just to stimulate a little nostalgia and admiration for a brand that might be disappearing.

Ken I'm not sure what exactly Charlie has read or heard but I suspect it may be related to this news. American Outdoor Brands has indicated it wishes to change the brand name to "American Outdoor Brand", however I've also read that this change would apply to items in their product line but not to the firearms.

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
My initial reaction was that if S&W were to change it's name it would be a terrible marketing decision. My next thought was that the younger generation know so little history of anything that the S&W name may mean increasingly little to most. The name may simply fail to evoke the associations and nostalgia that exist for an older generation.

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
They are not changing the name of the firearms operation. The holding company: S&W Holdings or some such, is changing it's name to American Outdoor Brands or some such. It has no affect on Smith & Wesson.

My VP9 likes Hornady Critical Defense ammo. My 1911 Kimber has 230gr JHP handloads it likes. I've shot ammo I reloaded 30 yrs ago with no change in performance but it is always stored in cool, dry conditions.

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
guarddog: No great expertise here, just chewing the fat. But from what I've read and heard it seems the major brands are each producing good [meaning effective] self-defense rounds. I know Federal is outstanding. Perhaps mainly habit but I've stuck with Hornady for a long while. I favor .357 mag and feel any quality round will most likely produce the desired effect.
I'm open to having my mind changed on this, but I've never had an issue when firing off ammo that is several years old. This includes both semi-auto and revolver. I do keep fresh ammo stoked in my dedicated SD gun. [It seems gun writers are always "stoking" their guns and I wanted to use that word.
] Burning up considerable ammo quickly becomes too expensive for me. I wonder where that recommendation originated.
Happy shooting!

FRJ: ...charm...pancreas protectors....You have a talent young man. As you can see, for home defense I'm something of a traditionalist. [The M-1 carbine was manufactured in July of 1945; excellent condition.]

Charm I like that Joe
Checksix,I've used Hornady for years then I tried Sig SD for practice and found in both of my .380's when ejecting rounds by hand Hornadys with the plastic fill in the hollow didn't clear the slide port like the Sig SD and the Federal did

Re: Guns & Gun Related Stuff
Just got a new smoke maker fer Christmas.
This is a replica of the 1851 Colt Navy revolver, made by Pietta in 1994.
Gonna send an 80 grain .36 caliber ball zipping along at close to 1,000 fps. better pics when it is in my hands.

FRJ,
Up until a couple of years ago, I was a pretty much a wheel gun shooter, concealed carried an old S&W Victory 38 Spl-2" bbl. I did a few trades and ended up with several of the polymer framed pistols, something I had shied away from .
A guy offered me this one, a SCCY CPX-2. I said how does it shoot? He said he didn't know, it was NIB. It shoots well and I carry it every time I head for civilization, shopping, farm supply, out to eat and even to church on Sunday mornings. Some gal at church asked me a while back about some of the old guys that are now wearing square tailed shirts? She said, "Really? That's good."
Also ended up with a couple of Rugers, an SR9 and an SR22. We outfitted the SR22 with a Crimson Trace laser and it rides in Miss Joy's purse 24/7.
I'm still the proud owner of some wheel guns, blue steel and walnut handles
. When I first started paying attention to the polymer pistols, I remembered being introduced to the M-16 and "Mattel toy" came to mind after all our training with an M-14. Live and learn.
