Saw this little 3½" barehead jack and immediately fell head over heels for the Stag and bought it without any idea where it was made or by whom. Both blades have a bear trap gator snap!!

No tang stamps, just a verrrry faint, almost invisible blade etch that can barely be seen when the blade is angled just so under certain light (and nearly impossible to photograph). As best I can tell, the etch says WESKE over USA inside a diamond, something like this:

Double click to enlarge and see if you agree with my assessment.

I couldn't find any pics of the WESKE USA logo for comparison, but based on my limited research, WESKE Cutlery Co. operated in Sandusky, Ohio from 1946-1952 and mostly made fixed blade hunting knives and a few pocket knives.

So, for all I know, this could be a rare one. ::woot::

Papa Bones wrote: Thu Jun 24, 2021 7:41 pm Got this one in yesterday from that South American Jungle Store order. I know nothing about the maker other than I've seen them advertised across the interwebs and in a couple of sporting mags. It's a Lord & Field single blade , with Blue Denim Micarta scales, 4 inches closed, Spear point blade is 2.75", blade and liners are stainless and has a liner lock that locks up tight. The blade thickness is .102 with a flat grind. I just liked the look of the knife. It is tight, liner locks up tight and did come paper cutting sharp. I am sure this is a Pacific Rim produced knife, but will see how it does.

Tom I’m partial to those Bantam’s myself. That red is gorgeous on that one.

I picked up these two Al Mar Osprey’s made by Moki last week from Lee here on AAPK. 2 1/4” closed, these are small knives. One with stag and the other with Chinese Quince burl wood. These have the same high degree of precision, tight tolerances and fit and finish that you expect from Moki. Just cleaning these was difficult, I can’t imagine working with these small parts and making such a fine knife.

Sweet Al Mar/Moki knives, Mark. I love Moki...probably the best F&F of any production knife I've ever owned. I had a the larger model Kronos but traded it away several years ago and have regretted it ever since. So, when I saw this smaller (3 5/8") Kronos with Amber Stag Bone for sale on eBay, I snapped it right up. Such a beautiful and well crafted piece of cutlery...every bit as good as a handmade custom costing three or four or five times as much, IMO. Hard to believe a knife of this high quality can be produced in a factory. ::nod::

Amen, Kronos is as good as any custom I've seen. And a third the price, or a quarter. I'm with you, probably never had better, and except for some amber stag and some Mammoth ivory, the Kronos amber stag bone has got to be the prettiest of any I own in bone. Top of the heap. Totally underrated piece. And yours is gorgeous.

Nice Q, Moki’s got my fire kindled for collecting many years ago. You just can’t beat the quality, fit and finish for the money.
I like the amber bone stag Kronos myself, I also like the Lapis blue Kronos models in my store.

Y'all have been hitting a slew of home runs lately! These may only be a double, or maybe a base hit, but I like 'em nevertheless: a pair of Case Peanuts in pocket worn old red bone.

There's more to the story, though. Those knives were ordered this past Wednesday. That night, a certain "pretty red mug" (that's a direct quote) suffered an unfortunate accident during dish-washing time. The following morning, I called Shepherd Hills and asked them if the order had been shipped yet. It hadn't, so I asked if they could add on a new mug. They did so, and got the order shipped soon after. It arrived yesterday. Superior customer service from Shepherd Hills!
