I will be VERY impressed if you can get Camillus to take a SFO.

Needed something small and sturdy today. Last year's AAPK #14 fit the bill perfectly.
Was looking at another of these for sale and it looks like it has protruding pins, not flush. How are yours? Looks like you have both? I like protruding pins and wondered if that run had them or it was an anomoly? Thanks if you can tell me.

I don't have it with me but I recall the pins either protrude slightly (most noticeably on the pivot pin) or are recessed but not ground flush (i.e. still have a round cap, just seated deeper in the bone). The end pins fit the latter description better than the middle ones. I don't know if it's a design choice by GEC or just a matter of "gettin' 'er done" when a large run of popular knives occurs, but I will say that the knife is fairly slim and the pins don't detract from that. I have a rehandled Scout with super-protrudey pins around the horn that I think you'd like, there was no mind paid to grinding those pins flat at all and you feel it in hand (not that it's bad).

I have to look to be certain but I think the smooth gold/autumn bone #14 I picked up from the same run is mostly or all flush. ::shrug::

A bunch of good looking knives being shown fellas. I'm a slow typer so won't comment on any but everyone who posted here the last two days has something I like. ::tu::
I packed a nice one today, my workhorse GEC osage moose, and a cheapo RR stockman. I like using the cheap ones to play with dying the bone. This stockman was an experiment to see if I could give the white bone a quick aging. I like the way it came out.

I am curious. Why do you like protruding pins? Is it their look, or another reason?

Thanks a bunch, very helpful. Lately I like the old knives with protruding, peened pins full of character, not to mention grip aiding. Also have a 2015 #77 Barlow with protruding pins and I like the extra grip. Like the look. Like those #14 AAPKs and never got a chance. Found one for make offer, now I just need to decide how much I'm willing to trade. Thanks again for the info, appreciate it big time. Have a good one.

Quick Steel, just noticed your post. Well it's the feel of something that aids grip for sure, kind of like knobby stag. But it's also the look. Like rat tail or fluted bolster, or pinched bolsters in comparison, it's just an aesthetic preference to me. And I just stumbled onto some on an old Challenge Cut Co and a Keen Kutter and you can see the dimples and tool marks so it's kind of like a record written in the metal, or an artifact too. And every single one is unique, like a finger print. On my 77 Barlow you can see the circular tool marks faintly, I like it. Fascinates me anyway. I've heard this is all heresy too in posts way back, so don't tell anyone.  ::super_happy::

Silk wood today. African Ebony, feels silky.

Thanks for the answer. I don't think there can ever be a heresy about what someone likes in knives. But my lips are sealed. :)

A dark knife suited my dark mood as I prepared for work tonight.
Surprisingly good news once I got to work lightened my mood .....

Great knives everyone. A Colonial I got off ebay for practically nothing. It was pretty thrashed. But its working good now. No wobble. Little bit of snap left.

Lately, I’ve been keeping my little Coast in my watch pocket and this mall ninja push button in my lfp. I usually walk home from the Skytrain, unless it’s pouring. The evening busses are packed. It’s getting to where it’s dark if I’ve stopped at the mall or it’s uke night. I’d never hurt someone with a knife, but I figure that distinctive ‘snick!’ and the surprise of seeing it in the hand of this little old lady ought to scare off potential muggers! Ours are mostly skinny crackheads anyway and I could probably just pick ‘em up and toss ‘em!

Zoogirl. Be careful and never under estimate the strength and violence of crackheads. A friend of mine is in the police force, and they advise people to avoid "crackheads" if they encounter them, their mind set to be extremely violent is very dangerous. You only have to look at the violence in emergency wards towards the people that are trying to help them. Just be careful is all i am trying to say. You have a good week. :D
