Re: what do ya'll look like?
Here's my music partner Frank and his banjo with me. We were Salvation Army bellringers last Christmas in front of the Food Lion in Ocean Pines, MD. I was out there a few days alone and Frank suggested we pick a few. It really worked. Folks put quite a bit of dough in the bucket. J.O'.

Excellent picture of you two! Nice, J.O.! I like that old Harmony Sovereign! I have the 12 string version! Great guitar!Ridgegrass wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 3:47 pm Here's my music partner Frank and his banjo with me. Re: what do ya'll look like?
Thanks. That's a sweet old 12 and it looks to be in great shape. The old Sovereigns are a well kept secret. Mine is so nice I'll even play it next to Frank's Mastertone banjo. (Which, by the way, was Don Reno's. Franks Dad was a friend of Reno's and Don sold him the banjo when Frank was a kid learning to play.
Forgive me if we've had this conversation before. My memory is loose. Here's a Harmony electric twelve. It's thought that Jimmy page wrote "Stairway" with one of these. Not recorded, just written.
My Sovereign, the electric 12, Jimmy playing his. J.O'.

Wow! Don Reno is Bluegrass royalty! I heard that about Page. Pretty cool. My '12 string is a '69. This model was used on the early Stones and Who records. It sounds like a piano!toomanyknives wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 4:49 pmExcellent picture of you two! Nice, J.O.! I like that old Harmony Sovereign! I have the 12 string version! Re: what do ya'll look like?
Funny , I use that "piano" description on big sounding guitars too! "Great minds" I guess.
I'm told my Sovereign is a "67. If you search around the net for Harmony guitar repair you'll find a guy in Maryland who specializes in them. He resets necks and does restorations for really reasonable prices. Seems it's a passion of his. I'll search around and send you his link.

Once again the mind doesn't envision the reality, you're a very cool looking older dude, J,O'., somewhat different than I'd imagined, but then you are a musician and that pretty much tells the tale!
I know nothing about guitars, but the models you guys are showing have certainly impressed me, especially the Jimmy shot, great story BTW!

Re: what do ya'll look like?
Thanks J.O. That's what I've done for a living for the last 30+ years. I'm a guitar repair guy. I owned a store for about 8 years and have done repairs since about 1990. I'm just about retired now. I had to put a new truss-rod in my 12 string. It was in very good shape, but the truss rod was shot. It works great now, and has fantastic action.Ridgegrass wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 10:27 pm Funny , I use that "piano" description on big sounding guitars too! "Great minds" I guess.

There should be a stamp inside your guitar on the back that will have a letter and two digits, such as S67 or F67. That would stand for Summer or Fall of 1967. it would look like this.. This would be Fall of 1951

Re: what do ya'll look like?
Just checked. It's a Summer 69. The "Summer or Love" Ha! That's special.
Good to hear you're a guitar guy. Hate to hear you're retiring. Good ones are so hard to find. I have a very good one but he's probably close to slowing down.
That outfit I was talking about is called "Moonlight Luthiers". I've never used them but they seem to be dedicated to old Chicago made guitars. I have 3, two Harmony's and a "Truetone" from the old Western Auto stores. It has an absolutely beautiful tone and volume. Not a brag but I have Martins and Gibsons galore and I'll do a gig with that old TrueTone anytime. As you said, it's a "piano", great for vocal backup.
Nice chatting, maybe I can pick your brain sometime about our old guitars.
John.

Re: what do ya'll look like?
Ha! Thanks Marco. I just turned 64 last week. It's funny you mentioned Clapton. I once received a "compliment" from a friend
that told me something I had just played sounded good. He said, "hey that was cool, it sounded like Clapton before he knew what he was doing".
I'll take that!

Thomasq, I like the Conquistador motif. I assume you are not standing in a room of your house.
