I have one of those steerhead shields, notice mine has a different etch to the blade.

Smallest to largest red bones: 1973 Half Whittler, swell center, 3 1/8 closed, 5 1/2 open. Middle one is a 1965-69 Half Stockman, serpentine, 3 3/8 closed 5 3/4 open. Largest is a 1965-69 Mini Trapper 3 1/2 closed, 6 1/4 open. All are amazingly tight, flush, solid, great snap, great feel. Half Stock and Half Whit are nice medium pulls and good snap, Mini Trapper is a nail breaking bear trap, but that's what makes it feel so tough and solid. This knife blows away my Mini Trappers from 2002 and 2003. All of these have deep, rich red color and some splotchy lighter areas reminiscent of salmon eggs or strawberry jelly. Don't dye them like this anymore, Case hit it out of the park. 2/3 credit goes to blade brother QTCut5 who gifted me the Half Stock and Mini T. Many many thanks are in order there brother Q and let the sleeping volcano lie.

Here are a couple that havent been posted yet

Look what the cat(mailman) dragged in to my doorstep today. Didn't leave it in the box. 1972 Case Cigar Jack #62055 main clip, small pen, 3 1/2 closed, 5 7/8 open 1/2 wide/thick, nice light unobtrusive carry. Great smooth action and snap, about a 6 pull, flush, smooth, no flaws I can see, everything is great. Brick red to dark maroon scales, very pretty in light, my photos don't do it justice. Excellent knife.

Sweet little MOP equal end from Case, 1980 lightning bolt SS, tiny little 2 5/8 closed. Spear and pen, or two pens maybe. Solid knife from a solid QTCut5 without whom my assortment of blades would be much poorer. Many thanks again volcano Bro.

1977 Case 3 dot, 61051 LSSP lock back. 6 1/4 open, 3 1/4 closed. Everything is flush and smooth, great silky open, lock up is solid and tight, no wobble and great sounding click. It's a workhorse, tough, solid, dependable, not the prettiest, but capable, nice, handy and never have to buff and polish.

One more, 1983 Case Mini Copperlock new grind, Clip and pen, jigged brown bone. 5 1/2 open, 3 1/8 closed. Had an '84 I was real attached to that looked just like it but it was stolen out of the car. QTCut5 gave me this to replace it. It was like a friend coming back from the dead. My only new grind and love it, looks better and is stronger. Just wish it was a smidge bigger. Great fit and finish, just a bit mushy on the open and close, closing is okay, but opening is the weakest, softest snap of any case I've ever seen or checked out. I have a Case Barlow the same year and it's a bear trap.

You Guys are busting out some beauties. I'll bet the V42 has a few stories to tell. Were going to get Jerry's (zp4ja) juices bubbling

I would second that. It came to me with a handle made out of some really ugly plastic;I made the clear handle and guard back from Lexan. It appeared to have never been blued or sharpened but showed traces of the original leather handle.I got it from an antique shop in Florida along with a couple of other knives. They had advertised it on E-bay as a letter opener.

EDIT: Here are a couple of pics from the original e-Bay ad. Won the auction for $55 including shipping. Somedays you get really lucky.

How old is old enough to be Vintage Case? Hope this will do. 1983 Case Barlow double blade Appaloosa bone, Clip and pen. 3 1/4 closed, 5 3/4 main open. Rock solid, stout, thick blades, great thin, long grind on main. Very thin bottom third. Sweet size for carry and hand. Thick, robust, great heft. Fit and finish perfect, all transitions smooth. Bear trap snap, nail breaking hazardous to close and half stop because there is so much pressure and snap that if it even touches you it slices right through. Better keep your fingers clear of this. It's dangerous and that's why I love it. Love the cool lightning bold script tang stamp too. Coolest Case ever designed IMHO. Like the way the dots line up on both sides of the lightning SS. And it came hair shaving sharp so combine the two and not suitable for children. That's what I love, these old Case were built to last, like tanks, they will last longer than I will and then some. Bargain for the thirty two clams paid for it. Got it at the OKCA show in Eugene, OR. Rock on Ducks. Great show too, best I've ever seen. Go if you get the chance.

Thanks for posting, hey Joe, that is one fabulous piece, of my favorite patterns, got a 1973 but it isn't as pretty as this one. What year, can't see the dots? Sweet knife.

That's a beauty Joe! I think the USA has some of the nicest CASE bone of all and the 6208 is a great pattern.
