Update: Amber has been riding in my watch pocket since her arrival. I am trying to give her plenty of exercise so she can build character. More pics to come as we go on.

From the looks of the scattered empties, Squach, it certainly seems you're giving Amber quite the initiation party!!
I am a big fan of old glass bottles. Used to love digging in dump sites for glass artifacts at abandoned homesteads I found while mtn biking around in the Mojave desert. (Topdog probably knows what I'm talking about

Re: Amber Across America (AAA) – A Fitting Tribute To Ivoryman
When I was a kid in AZ my Granddad was a "rock hound" and we would go out on the desert and look for rocks like agate, quartz, mica, Apache Tears geodes etc. He would tumble and polish them for jewelry and ornaments. Grandma always told us to keep our eyes peeled for old glass pieces and whole bottles. She would put them on the porch roof in the direct sunlight where they would turn color if they were old enough. Lavender, purple, green and some blue were the colors that they turned if I remember correctly. Some of the pieces would get tumbled and polished but the whole bottles went in her collection. The bottles in my photo were all laying together at the base of a hollow tree as if someone had collected them but left the there.QTCut5 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 18, 2025 6:13 pm From the looks of the scattered empties, Squach, it certainly seems you're giving Amber quite the initiation party!!![]()

Glad to see Amber out and about enjoying nature and the treasures you find on your walks, Charlie. I'm enjoying the pics...Keep 'em comin'!
I’m a long time collector in search of rare and limited GEC AND Northwoods knives. Always looking to add ivory pieces to my collection. PM to discuss sales or trades, please!

Re: Amber Across America (AAA) – A Fitting Tribute To Ivoryman
I had a rough day yesterday. I wasn't feeling good and I had a lot to do, that's a bad combination. By the time I got done I was ready for a hot shower and early to bed. Amber was in my pocket but didn't get out for much exercise. I'll have to make up for it today.

A knife doesn't have to cut to be of service. It can provide comfort simply by having it in your pocket. Hope you're feeling better, Squach, and know that like a good friend, Amber will be there when you need her.

Thank you gentlemen. I'm feeling much better this morning. The therapeutic value of hot water and rest should never be underestimated. It's just a forgone conclusion that, as you get older, you need a lot more hot water and rest!!!
I'll have a more interesting update this evening, stay tuned.

Amber was along on our walk today and she was in on dinner prep. I noticed after I washed up the dinner dished, including Amber, that she is showing small signs of starting a patina.

Charlie, these photos look very similar to the way IvoryMan photographed his knives. Amber is looking good with the veggies!

Re: Amber Across America (AAA) – A Fitting Tribute To Ivoryman
Thank you gentlemen! Having my photos compared to those of Ivoryman is a compliment I don't deserve but I'm flattered anyway.
UPDATE: Amber has been riding in my watch pocket this whole time and has been cutting twine and opening boxes as mail order Christmas gifts arrive. She won't be with me when I start wrapping them so she's taking part in getting them ready to wrap. I took the pics below to show the little bit of patina Amber has developed in the time she has been with me. It's not much but it's a beginning.
I have been marveling at the ACSB handles on Amber and wondering why there has been something familiar about them. I didn't think I had any knives with similar handles until that little light of lucidity went off in the back of my head. I do have one knife that equals the beauty of Ambers' handles. When you have as many canoes as I do it takes the brain (especially an old one) a while to wander through the inventory.
The last pic is a Queen (before they closed their doors) canoe with the same look handles. If I remember correctly Queen called it Honey Stag Carved Bone.

Nice to hear you're putting Amber through her paces and giving her a lot of opportunities to earn her stripes, Squach. The developing patina is testament to her many experiences. It's cool you identified a fellow ACSB knife in your vast canoe collection
I wonder if Amber will run into other ACSB cousins in the homes of the other members she visits on her journey
Enjoy your final week with Amber; it will pass all too quickly

Re: Amber Across America (AAA) – A Fitting Tribute To Ivoryman
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving family dinner yesterday!
Amber attended a turkey feast at my sons' house and was instrumental in preparing the cranberry sauce for the table.
Amber and I have bonded well but unfortunately our time together is running out, tick-tock, tick-tock.....

I want to openly thank Charlie for his quiet acceptance of his abbreviated time with Amber due to the manufacturing delays we all experienced. I made the decision to keep the original visitation schedule rather than extend it and Charlie didn’t pushback or try to change the plan.
I knew you’d bond and that’s forever Charlie. Thanks for treating Amber so well and showing her the best that Maryland has to offer.

Re: Amber Across America (AAA) – A Fitting Tribute To Ivoryman
It's just the way life flows, not always according to plan. The amount of time Amber spends with me is unimportant because it's not about me. It's about Ivoryman and how we remember him. I am just honored to have been included in this process.bestgear wrote: ↑Fri Nov 28, 2025 3:36 pmI want to openly thank Charlie for his quiet acceptance of his abbreviated time with Amber due to the manufacturing delays we all experienced. I wonder if Ivoryman ever experimented with cranberries when he was perfecting his patented patina process
