I read on BladeForums that when they added in the "like button" feature that conversations fell off noticeably. People hit the "like" and move on. A lot less back and forth communication. You also get the people who hit the "like" on every post from every member every day, which sort of goes against the whole point of it.
Like Button = A person who needs visual (or demands) verification that they are being accepted and that their comment / post is providing them with personal edification, for their own self gratification, from people they have never met or know personally. This then causes that person to constantly check back in every 10 minutes to see their "LIKE" count. If it is low, or none at all, they go into a depressive mindset, thinking that no one "likes" them. If it is high, they then take that to the next opposite level thinking (falsely) that they have higher standards, which then tends to make the pedestal they are standing on seem much higher than it is.
Who wants to go through that type of mental gymnastics too 'feel' accepted. It's not worth it. Just post your comment and move on. It's THAT simple.

As a standard Like feature I agree, this isn't Instagram and I think we all probably more enjoy being more interactive and intentional. As a "favorites or Watchlist" feature, that could be cool to tag posts or threads you want to revisit or watch (that was more my thinking). Still, we're doing just fine and if you take time to comment they show up in your "My Posts" list anyway
