All About Pocket Knives

Not counting the Case Classics, Case did have some patterns of pocket knives made in the USA by other knife companies on contract, from the XX era through the early 2000's.

- 640045R - made at various times by Utica, Ulster, and Camillus.

- 620035 and 620035 1/2 - made by Utica and Ulster.

- 62146 R L SS rigging knife - Camillus

- 61011 Hawkbill with Delrin handles - Camillus.

- 62031 L H R electrician (Delrin) - made by Camillus.

Case's modern stainless lockbacks - Shark Tooth and others - made by Alcas until 1990.

Some percentage of Sodbusters - Alcas.

Some percentage of 048 patterns - 61048, 61048 SSP, 62048, 62048 SSP, 31048 and 32048 were made by Camillus.

I may be forgetting a few.

Case never had Queen make any, as far as I know.

I may have not been clear - the cheesy bulk knives were clearly marked China. And they are cheesy. But only a buck or two each, in bulk of course.

Please correct me if I'm mistaken but I believe all the Case Classics were made by Queen.

Below are the first 3 patterns of the Case Classics made by Case. All the others were produced by Queen Cutlery via Bluegrass Cutlery contracts.
-62100 Saddlehorn
-6488 Congress
-6394 Gunboat

Per Gerald Witcher's Counterfeiting Antique Cutlery four patterns were made in-house by Case. They were the 54 pattern trapper, the 94 pattern gunboat, the four bladed 88 pattern congress, and the two bladed 52100 saddlehorn. The rest were contract knives made by Blue Grass/Queen.

I have a 33/4 " stockman in cranberry bone with tulip shield, 1st production run stockman John Primble from Bluegrass. I rank it up with the best of any Queen or S&M knife in my collection. Itys first rate. Ive only seen 1 other from there, a Winchester and it too was tip top. They own Primble and pay royalty to Olin for the Winchester trade name. Ive seen interviews with Tim Scott, who claims he inspects each knife. he used to turn a bunch back at inspection but not many now. You guys sure know a lot of names that I need to get familiar with. I think I will make a list and see what I can find about everyone.

I was just on the Case website checking info where I read Case Co themselves state the majority of their knives are made in the USA. That clearly means some are not, and although I tried to find out where the new Case Longhouse is made, I couldn't find it in their own copy. But just look at them, they look like every Finch, Pena, Jack Wolf knife at C. Risners. I would bet the farm it's Chinese by the looks of it. If you can't see place of manufacture in the body copy, then there's a reason for it. They're trying to hide it because they know it offends certain customers.

Sorry, but you would lose “the farm”. Those new releases are made in Bradford, PA. And the steel is made in USA by Crucible Steel.

The Chinese line you reference is the TecX line which was introduced several years ago. See posts from here on AAPK over 10 years ago viewtopic.php?p=261235#p261235 TecX knives are made in a Chinese factory (not owned by Case) to meet demand for low-priced “tactical” style knives within a certain market demographic. The knives do not say “Case” anywhere on them. At the time the TecX line was introduced it spawned an internet “chicken little” reaction, with posts saying Case had sold out and claiming all Case knives were made in China, blah blah blah. And all “fake news”.

I’ve wondered if in hindsight Case wishes it had never released the TecX line.
