Re: New Wood Knife Storage Box Idea
Thanks for trying Jerry, but the Walmart link won't ship up here, and at Amazon.ca they only had artists organizers drawers which would probably work, and at Amazon.com it is currently unavailable. Which Amazon did you look at to find the ones you saw? Thx!

There are 3, maybe 4, parts to this tool cabinet.
Looks like Jerry found the same thing from a different source. The shipping is what will kill you.

I've got a couple of them from Harbor Freight, and they are great for knives. There's photos of mine in one of the other storage topics.

Re: New Wood Knife Storage Box Idea
I had thought about one of those a while back but I need something more like this,
a "jewelers cabinet" from way back. Date unknown. At present there are
approximately 800 knives in this cabinet.

Break out your Delorean and stuff some banana peels into the flux capacitor and hit the 88mph and you will be back in time somewhere, or maybe easier just grab today’s lottery numbers and go back a few days, and then play the numbers and then you can buy whatever you want.

Hey Willie how many knives do you feel that cabinet would hold?Steamboat Willie wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 4:49 amGreat minds think alike. I bought one of those H/F boxes a year or so ago and am very happy with it. I wouldn’t use it as a tool chest, but for knife storage it’s dandy!Wudidiz wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 12:39 am I keep most of my knives in the leather folding cases with the red felt and stretch bands. Last week I found this machinist tool box at Harbor Freight for less than a hundred bucks. It’s hardwood and the drawers are lined infelt. It also locks. It works very nice for collector knives. I am using it for my “most frequently handled” knives. Compared to similar wood boxes, I think this is a bargain.

I'm using a metal BISLEY 5 drawer from The Container Store. They come in several different colors.

The first cabinet mentioned is $94.99 (used to be $89.99) directly from Harbor Freight. I have one, and I thinks it’s great! Two of the drawers come with dividers that are a perfect size for knives. I made dividers for the other drawers. I think I have 60 knives in it. I use the top for odds and ends, but you could get quite a few more knives there. All drawers have a felt bottom.

Re: New Wood Knife Storage Box Idea
Thank you much for providing the link John! I found the Harbour Freight type as well as the one in the link, and went through checkout with one shy of placing the order, but after the non-member cost of US$130., US$53. shipping, Duty + Taxes, and CDN G.S.T. tax, the bottom line was US$200./CDN$275., and that's just too much for that box. You guys are bending over backwards trying to help me get my hands on one of these boxes, and I really appreciate it, but since the cost is so high I'm gonna work with the containers I bought for the time being to see if they're suitable for holding my collection. Thanks for your help all the same!1967redrider wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 1:15 pmMadmarco wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 2:11 amWhere online could I view it for a possible purchase, John?1967redrider wrote: ↑Wed Dec 14, 2022 2:53 pm I have the 3 piece Chinese version of this set and love it for knife storage.Thx!

Thanks for the link Jerry, the box in it didn't show up anywhere yesterday when I looked. As soon as the page loaded today it recognized my CDN IP and stated, "This item cannot ship to your location", which I kindda expected, but thanks for trying all the same!

Yah, it kindda does Jerry, but the containers coming might just do the trick, and if not I always have the offer from Case XX 6383, so there's options, there's always options!

Oh buddy! I saw the movie and knew exactly what you meant, I had been on my laptop ALL day and was getting punchy, and that's what came out of my mouth!
It's actually my bad, you were just being comical, just like I failed to be!

Sorry for the delayed response Jamie. I presently have 104 knives in mine and the large top compartment is completely empty, as is one of the small drawers. A couple of the other small drawers are only half full, so I think it could easily hold another 50 or 60.

Re: New Wood Knife Storage Box Idea
Thanks Marco!! Sadly, it holds most of my pocket knives and a bunch of fixed blades, but I have another ten or more tubs full of fixed blades. If you look around antique shops the dental cabinets do come up for sale and are great storage for smaller objects. I bought mine from the dentist who bought it new in the 1920s. He had it professionally painted a cream color in the 1940s to match his other equipment and I put about a hundred hours into it stripping and sanding, then putting six coats of varnish on the mahogany sanding every two coats. I stalled with the two other top glass doors, have them, just need to install them.
