Thanks for trying Jerry, but the Walmart link won't ship up here, and at Amazon.ca they only had artists organizers drawers which would probably work, and at Amazon.com it is currently unavailable. Which Amazon did you look at to find the ones you saw? Thx! 8)

I got mine from Sportsman's Guide when they were doing free shipping-

There are 3, maybe 4, parts to this tool cabinet.

Looks like Jerry found the same thing from a different source. The shipping is what will kill you. ::nod::

I've got a couple of them from Harbor Freight, and they are great for knives. There's photos of mine in one of the other storage topics. ::handshake::

I had thought about one of those a while back but I need something more like this,
a "jewelers cabinet" from way back. Date unknown. At present there are
approximately 800 knives in this cabinet.

Sorry guys, those aren't large enough!! Here's my answer, mahogany dental cabinet from the 1920s.
Considering all the knives you show us Gene, it really doesn't surprise me you have that cabinet! Now, if I could only find a way back to the 20's! Your cabinet is totally cool, and I'd bet it will hold as many knives as you want! Thanks for posting it! ::handshake:: 8)

Last week I found this machinist tool box at Harbor Freight for less than a hundred bucks. It’s hardwood and the drawers are lined infelt. It also locks. It works very nice for collector knives. I am using it for my “most frequently handled” knives. Compared to similar wood boxes, I think this is a bargain.

Great minds think alike. I bought one of those H/F boxes a year or so ago and am very happy with it. I wouldn’t use it as a tool chest, but for knife storage it’s dandy! ::tu::

I'm using a metal BISLEY 5 drawer from The Container Store. They come in several different colors.

The first cabinet mentioned is $94.99 (used to be $89.99) directly from Harbor Freight. I have one, and I thinks it’s great! Two of the drawers come with dividers that are a perfect size for knives. I made dividers for the other drawers. I think I have 60 knives in it. I use the top for odds and ends, but you could get quite a few more knives there. All drawers have a felt bottom.

Thank you much for providing the link John! I found the Harbour Freight type as well as the one in the link, and went through checkout with one shy of placing the order, but after the non-member cost of US$130., US$53. shipping, Duty + Taxes, and CDN G.S.T. tax, the bottom line was US$200./CDN$275., and that's just too much for that box. You guys are bending over backwards trying to help me get my hands on one of these boxes, and I really appreciate it, but since the cost is so high I'm gonna work with the containers I bought for the time being to see if they're suitable for holding my collection. Thanks for your help all the same! 8)

Thanks for the link Jerry, the box in it didn't show up anywhere yesterday when I looked. As soon as the page loaded today it recognized my CDN IP and stated, "This item cannot ship to your location", which I kindda expected, but thanks for trying all the same! ::handshake:: 8)

Hey Willie how many knives do you feel that cabinet would hold?
Sorry for the delayed response Jamie. I presently have 104 knives in mine and the large top compartment is completely empty, as is one of the small drawers. A couple of the other small drawers are only half full, so I think it could easily hold another 50 or 60.

Thanks Marco!! Sadly, it holds most of my pocket knives and a bunch of fixed blades, but I have another ten or more tubs full of fixed blades. If you look around antique shops the dental cabinets do come up for sale and are great storage for smaller objects. I bought mine from the dentist who bought it new in the 1920s. He had it professionally painted a cream color in the 1940s to match his other equipment and I put about a hundred hours into it stripping and sanding, then putting six coats of varnish on the mahogany sanding every two coats. I stalled with the two other top glass doors, have them, just need to install them.
